Welcome to the iPhoneography User Forum > Are you getting the new iPad?

Depending on the UK price of the new iPad, I will probably get the 32GB WiFi model when it arrives in the UK in about 60 days, but is anyone else going to get one?

What usage regarding photography do you see with iPad? I didnt get the point yet. It looks beautiful....

I'm really surprised that it doesn't have a camera, it would make a great video chat device. As much as I would love to have one, I'm going to wait and see.

If I was to EVER buy one it would HAVE to be a 3G version. All I have to do is put my iPhones SIM card into the iPad & I have FREE 3G Unlimited data usage from my current iPhone cellular plan so that is the only thing that makes sense to purchase it.

I think having a larger surface area to do photo editing is a good thing.

Well, I'm ordering one for my department to check it out, and I will probably get one but... when the second generation comes out. I am not a doubter of the iPad. I think it will be good and helpful, and I think Apple has a plan for it carefully laid out.

I can see myself carrying this everywhere, and the ability to work with images on it will be very handy -- not to mention the portfolio showcasing possibilities. PDF versions of photo magazines will be quite nifty too.

Lots of uses I can envision, so yes, count me as indeed getting one, but with 3G and at least 64GB. It needs more memory for sure.

Best,

N

I'm absolutely getting one, I have the wifi 16gb reserved for this weekend and I am super excited. I don't know if I plan on using it for any kind of 'darkroom' applications. I think it will be great for music, games, and media consumption, but I'm not sure which creative disciplines will transfer well. I imagine a future version will have a camera, though... :) I will probably release a darkroom version of the Chromocam Suite in 2010

I think the biggest photographic advantages will be in terms of show-casing your work. Imagine talking to a prospective client, and you can pull it out and show off your portfolio easily. After talking with the client, you can add their booking date in the calendar, and any notes.

I think an app that easily transfers iphone photos to the iPad easily and instantly for editing would be a great idea. take the photo's, and when you get back to your room, transfer edit and upload.

I'm not going to purchase one, i dont see enough use as i love my iphone. BUT i do see possibilities for the iPad for photographers

Dehno hit the nail on the head. I would use it for portfolio stuff. Other then that I don't have a need. The one I would want would be $700 and the 3g coverage is 29.99 a month. Where my iPhone works as a portfolio now. I also have a printed portfolio. So I just don't see it being worth it right now. The wow factor might be nice but really a datebook and a printed portfolio will do just as well. Maybe one or two generations down the line I will pick one up. Sort of like how waited for the 3gs before i jumped on the band wagon. Although it would be impressive to let perspective clients swipe my portfolio images around I will stick to what I have now. Also a printed portfolio can be good because it lets them know you understand how to print images.

Well, I've been considering getting one instead of waiting. We've ordered two in my office now, so I'm inching toward a 64GB Wi-Fi and 3G version. I'm in academia and could use one rather easily: from meetings (calendar, note-taking, access to university websites like Blackboard, etc., ), to travel to conferences (reading papers, commenting on student work, reading a large collection of PDFs, ebooks, etc.), to consuming content created by students (digital storytelling projects, videos, storyboards, etc.), to showcasing student photo work (and my own), and watching movies, shows, listening to educational content, keeping calendars, project management for work... not to mention its use as a portfolio of images, and large canvas for iphoneography post-processing.

We'll see. : )
