Welcome to the iPhoneography User Forum > Cross Process - The better cross processing from Nick Campbell?

Downloaded this today. I can say that like ShakeItphoto it has really good filters. I have not tested that much til now but i think this will become a keeper on my phone. What do you think?

February 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTomba

I really don't like it. The filters don't change the image much. Overall I was not very impressed. I ran the same image through using almost every filter combination and I did not see much of a variation from image to image. Also sometimes the red image filter went crazy and added a very very intense red hue over the entire frame. I would pass this one up if I had it to do over.

As i wrote i will test it more during the weekend.
Personally i prefer more natural effects. May be thats why i liked it at first shots as i like the polaroid effect with ShakeitPhoto.
More difficult can be to find each personal preffered color settings.
And before someones askes: Yes it saves in full resolution (ShakeitPhoto not).
The GUI is nice and easy to use.

As I have stated before & to Nick...
I personally hate this app. I think it is crap, a waste of money & should have been a free update for the loyal fans of ShakeItPhoto. All it does is contains 4 filters... Adds a centre flash to image, slight fading of images color & adds a tint around the edge of the photo. That to me is NOT Cross Processing at all. BUT if that is your idea of a great "cross processing" app then this might be perfect for you. But if you actually know what you are talking about then I will guess this won't be a very useful app in your collection.

Too bad it wasn't a free ShakeItPhoto update for if it was I'd have praised it & promoted others to buy it... But as a very weak solo app it's anything but impressive... simply a let down in my own personal opinion !!!

February 26, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterscw

@scw
in the title i ended with a ? which unfortunalty is not posted.
So i dont wanted to make a statement that it is a great "color processing" app. The developer named it so.
What i like is the handling and processing like Shakeitphoto and that the effect is not too overprocessed. And it made full resolution. thats why i planned to give it test in detail during the weekend.
What would you suggest if one would have to have "real cross processing"?
For my taste i desagree to have it as additional option within shakeitphoto. for me this should be only updated with full resolution. it does one thing and very good.

February 26, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTomba

@Tomba Oh my comment is not directed at you it is directed at the general public & anyone who might find this app enjoyable. That is why it is my own opinion that this is a less than impressive lack luster app that truly doesn't do anything you couldn't do with a handful of apps you already paid for. So to buy this is simply pointless IMO

February 26, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterscw

@scw i understand but miss your rec. for what to use for real color crossing

February 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTomba

@ scw

Your tone is always incredibly aggressive, offensive and belittling to anyone who disagrees with you. Please don't bother responding to this, as it is only my opinion.

@ Tomba

Thanks for your comments, I think I might buy this app. Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about, but I like the look of the results on the Flickr group, and ARCHiPhone likes the app, which has to be the highest recommendation for an app (IMHO again).

February 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTottie

Tottie: That comment made me laugh. And thanks for bringing ARCHiPhone and his blog to my attention, probably the best thing that's come out of visiting this discussion. If you have any other tips or would just like to chat about cool apps, feel free to drop me an email. (contact@positivemachine.com)

NOTE TO POSTERS

Please can I ask you not to get personal with your comments/responses, as each of us have our own opinions about what makes a good or bad photo, a good or a bad effect, or a good or a bad app. The idea of this discussion board is to discuss and share ideas and opinions, and not thrust our own thoughts down peoples throats. Whilst I do make comments about apps myself when I review or announce them, my views may not be agreeable to all, and that's why I encourage feedback, and very often will get healthy feedback.

@Tomba, I'm not sure why the ? mark would not post in the title of this discussion, but I've now added it

February 28, 2010 | Registered CommenterGlyn Evans

Like @scw I am also disappointed with the results from this app, and can not see myself using it very often, if at all. There are not many apps that I have bought only to wish I hadn't wasted my money, but sadly this is one of them. Now I know by the comments above I am in the minority on this one, but as I have already said, "it's all in the eye of the beholder".

February 28, 2010 | Registered CommenterGlyn Evans

@Glyn
I have an inkling that your note to posters was aimed at me.

I would like to clarify that your comments are always well written and measured, and I trust and respect your opinion to the extent that I held back on buying this app. Quite a few happen to disagree with your review but you graciously accept their opinions. I also object to having opinions thrust forcefully down my throat by others, and can't help but respond accordingly - one of the results of working on the frontline of the NHS I'm afraid. I will curb my hackles in future. Anyway, I think the app is great - fun, not too extravagant (effects or cost-wise) and slick. All for the price of a packet of gum!

March 1, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTottie

@Tottie. The comment I posted was not aimed at yourself, so please continue posting comments. I stepped in because in this thread and the comments thread for the app announcement itself, I was worried that a bun fight between a few was about to break out :)

March 1, 2010 | Registered CommenterGlyn Evans

I am also surprised about the "fights" after beginning this discussion. Made some test during the weekend. I like the blue settings but cannot say if this is real cross processing. Its easy to use. i like the rectangle mode and the border. Also full resolution. But i feel something is missing. I hoped to find a setting i like most but didnot find it yet. I will keep it and will use it from time to time.

One question is remaining. Does mixing of more than one color deliver predictable results? or is it more a random mode. i could not find this in the descriptions or in the examples Nick posted.
Thanks

SCW: I've seen your very angry comments on other reviews, including Twitter and iTunes and I'm wondering why you seem to be so upset. Is this a personal issue with you? People like different styles, different things. You seem to take this CrossProcess app as a personal attack. Seems strange.

I, for one, love the app.

Well, I still have yet to understand why anyone thinks that this should be an update for 'loyal shakeit photo fans'. How can someone say they're 'loyal?' Is it up to the developer to decide if you're a 'loyal' fan or not? Anyway, if you thought that this should've been an update then you shouldn't have purchased it. The developer has been posting photos processed with this app since October of last year, so there was more than enough time to see what type of processing this app gave photos.
This is a completely different app than SIP though.. No polaroid border (if you want to turn off the border you can) and rectangle format. And very subtle but awesome processing.

To answer the question @Tomba, from what I've seen if you have all of the color options on then it randomly chooses only one to apply to your photo (Kind of like Toy Camera, if you have ever used that app.). I'm not a big fan of the red either, so I have that turned off, or if I know for sure that I just want the 'basic' setting (which I tend to favor most) then I just have that one turned on.
I've been using this app a lot and it's now right next to my most used app, shake it photo. I appreciate the work that the developer has put into it.

March 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAmbrosia

It's a great app and you can make beautifull photo's with it see flickr Morgan Miranda...
Maybe it would be better if it was combined with ShakeItPhoto like Hipstamatic does so the developers can ask some money for each new set....

I like the ishakeit app but take away the border and I don't think the colours are very nice, its the whole package that you look at with that app. - so in comparison to this app which I think has some pretty nice effects. Especially if you just have a few snap shots and don't want it to look like a polaroid, say when your on the move and your blogging it'd be perfect for that!

I dont see why its being compared to ishakeit because thats a polaroid simulating app...!? Although I appreciate that its made by the same developer I dont see why he's being criticized for not having added this to his other application, ultimately hes making money on this new app, and as we know making money as a developer can be a difficult task but also, they're not exactly similar are they! Its like downloading an app to well create a Polaroid and having some irrelevant extra feature that adds a few filters unrelated to a polaroid to your image! Its not necessary :P

Admittedly I'm a fan of the subtle more pastel colours in my photographs and I don't see this app winning any popularity contests soon :P but I personally love it and its on the front page of my photo apps - which is a lot LOL!

This has become one of my favorite apps, and so for the first proper post on my new iPhone photography site, Pocket Plastic, I've written a review of Cross Process. Hope it convinces a few people to take it up.

I was very sceptical since I am not a particular fan of ShakeIt, but downloaded X process because of the divided views.
And I quite like it.
I think some of the effects would be similar to what Hipstamatic can produce if Hipsta allows camera roll access :-)

March 5, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterpsikat

I downloaded it a few days ago and I really, really like it. I think the muted colours are gorgeous, especially on photos of people. (I never bought Shake-it Photo so I can't comment on any similarities.)
