Welcome to the iPhoneography User Forum > Anyone else wish the photo category in the app store was sub-categorized???

I really wish the photo category in the app store had some sub-categories. I wish it was laid out like the game tab.

Video Apps: All these new video recording and video filter aps

Camera Programs: Hipstamatic, Tripod, Gorilla Cam, ProHDR, Pano, and programs like that.

Filter Programs: Lo-mob, RetoCamera, EffectsLab, Format126, ProFX, and programs like that.

Real Camera Programs: CameraOne Camera Remote, Those Nikon Guides, f-stop calculators, and all the programs that deal with cameras other then the iphone.

Image Collections: All the bikini girl programs, programs of peoples at work, and the travel slideshow programs.

Msc: Anything that does not really fit in the other ones.

Amy I missing anything????? Does anyone else feel the same way? I wish apple would consider doing this.

Great idea! They do it with games. While we're on the subject, books need to be sub-catagorized as well.

I would appreciate them adding a whole new category for video alone. And an adult category for the all the bikini/fart apps. :)

I am confused about the game tab. Is that something for the iPhone 3GS?

First post and great site. Totally agree with you on this Robert. Too many different,so called image
based apps bundled together.

GREAT idea!! Write to Apple about it. Make it a petition and I'll sure sign it!
It's aggravating to go looking for a type of app I have in mind and find nothing but junk! Apple can do a better job with camera app approvals and organizing. Sometimes I do wonder, "What Were They Thinking?!?!" But I still luv 'em.

p.s. --- Glyn does a wonderfully informative job about new apps with his Facebk posts and Tweets! Otherwise, we would really be in the dark.
Kudos Glyn!!!

Indeed he does. I check this site daily and check out what everyone is doing on flickr. I also try and make a habit of checking the photo category on daily basis. Due to $$$ issues I am trying to cut back the number of apps I buy significantly. Part of the reason I got so worked up over wasting 99 cents on CrossProcess.

I do wish though they would clean up and reorganize the Photo category. Now that they released all these 3g video recording apps they should have a Photo category and a Video category.

yes! for real concerning photo & vid. I've had my fare share of low grade apps... gave bad rating when I deleted them from phone. one said they'd refund my $, but they didn't.
Did a review on another and told them what I thought. People should know what's up. If I'm in doubt, I go read reviews. Most times I'll not buy.

Yes, absolutely, it is way past the time for such categorization. We need a better scheme for organizing that data. Camera apps, post-processing apps, filter apps, effects apps...

One other thing that doesn't work as well right now is that reviews do not really reflect the expertise, experience, or standpoint of the reviewer. Hence, a camera app might be evaluated as "awesome" or "does so many things, and its very good" by a person who is not a photographer. B&H Photo has brief reviews on its site, but it highlights the level of the photographer, and type of use. I know that is all self-reporting, but perhaps something like that would help also. Sites like this one help a lot with this issue.

Best,

N

Can I suggest two more categories?

"portfolios of photographers you've never heard of"
"Slideshows of images - ie semi naked girls that aren't exactly photography!"
