New iPhone Photo App: ReelMoments

Description from the AppStore: Reelmoments lets you take time-lapse video directly with either iPhone 3G or 3GS. Capture the moments of your life and create VIDEO clips on the fly!

Ever wonder how filmmakers capture the blooming of flowers? Clouds fleeting over the sky? Or people flooding the subway station and exiting it in rapid motions? Now you can create videos just like that using your iPhone camera!

Simply:

  • Set timer and interval.
  • Optionally ZOOM in on the subject.
  • Tap Start and shoot your own time-lapse films!
  • Share your videos by email or save them to Camera Roll.
  • Battery level is monitored and displayed; recording will be stopped and video saved when battery is low.

What is time-lapse?

Time-lapse is a professional technique to capture photos at a slow interval and play them back as normal speed video. The otherwise slow changing moments are condensed into a dramatic scene, which often contains fantastic visual feasts revealing unusual events otherwise slipping by unnoticed.

AppStore Link: ReelMoments - Price £2.29/$3.99

Editors comments: This is an interesting app from the developers of ReelDirector that allows you to create Time-lapse video clips right in the iPhone. Whilst a little over priced, I have just bought this app, so stay tuned for a review next week.

could you answer one quick question before i download this. (i think i'm an app addict)

Can you add audio and stuff in the app?

or, Is the main difference of this app (vs. 'timelapse' or 'fototimer') that it spits out a (silent) movie file instead of a bunch of stills?

thanks

I'm looking forward to your revew of this app. I was going to wait til your review but I downloaded it anyway. Haven't used it yet.

I love ReelDirector and the vids shown on ReelMoments looks good.

It would be interesting to see how it compares with TimeLapse app (just discovered it exists through my research on 'time lapse') although that app takes photos not videos.

Great site by the way! I come here often to look at your reviews.

hey nina - another iphone timelapse app is "foto timer", shoots image sequences, same idea as timelapse. after lots of going back and forth i think i prefer 'timelapse'.

havn't tried ReelMoments yet, been a super busy day, trying to wait for the reviews to roll in but i'm not very patient!

Thanks for the info Kate! I don't think I'll be getting any time-lapse photo app as am not keen to have hundreds of photos on my iPhone and edit them all on my laptop with another app. A time lapse video recorder that does it all for u is more ideal for me.

I've already downloaded ReelMoments and keen to try this when I get the time and edit with ReelDirector! :D

iMotion looks a lot better to me. Check it out!

I have bought both apps (ReelMoments and iMotion) and I have to say that after one animation made with both apps, iMotion seems to be work better.

In ReelMoments I can't really change the frame rate, ok I change it either to 15 or 30 frames the second, but in iMotion I can define it on my own from 1 to 30 frames and thats, for me personally, a very important fact!
