New iPhone Photo App: Videomatic

Description from the AppStore: Videomatic lets you add effects, sounds, and music to videos on your iPhone 3GS. You can make any video funny, scary, or just plain weird!

You can add sound effects and music to as many short 5 second clips as you want, for free.

Then, when you want to start making longer videos, simply upgrade to any of the following effects:

  • Normal Speed - Plays the movie in full at normal speed.
  • Slow Motion - Slows movies down.
  • Fast Forward - Speeds em up, and makes everyone sound ridiculous!
  • Reverse - Plays the video backwards.
  • Silent Film - Speeds up the video and puts it into black and white.
  • Horror Film - Slows down the video and puts it in black and white with scary music.

Videomatic has many sound packs and a wide variety of music as well. You can add sounds by just tapping on your screen as the video plays!

Any movie you make you can also share with your friends.

NOTE: This app is designed for use with the iPhone 3GS's camera. If you don't have a iPhone 3GS, don't download the app!

I'm waiting for Nexvio to update ReelDirector with ability to record audio, trimming and add photos to video clips on their next update. Apparently they're very close.. I can't wait, looking forward to it!!

I agree 100% AVOID this SCAM at all costs... DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS "Free App" For it will cost you $6 to become useful!

Hi there. I am the author of this app. You guys sound pretty angry! :)

First, the app is free so you can try it out. That's right there in the description on the App Store page.

You can create as many "normal speed" videos as you want by just paying a dollar. I find it hard to believe that you guys think that a video editor app like this could be 100% free when ReelDirector is $8. The app is set up the way it is so you can actually try it out before you buy it, which is a *good* thing. Then, spring for a buck to turn on "Normal Speed", create as many videos as you want, and be happy.

If you want to add slow motion, fast motion, or other stuff, add a few more bucks. This is no more expensive than apps that do similar things. (Like Vintage Video Maker, which is $1.99 and does not let you add sound effects.)

Also, there are some brief instructions before the video plays. You'll notice that you *can* stop the video while it is playing. Just tap with two fingers. Once you get over the slight learning curve, it's actually really easy to create funny clips quickly.

Hope this helps!

Hi Greg

Thanks for posting your feedback/comments, it is good to know that the devs read the posts and comments.

Sadly I do not have an iPhone 3GS, and so have been unable to test your app for myself, which is why I ask for feedback, of which there have been 2 negative ones.

Whilst I know your app is FREE and as you pointed out ReelDirector costs £4.99/$7.99, but as SCW pointed out to get full functionality, Videomatic will cost $6 in the end, due to your choice of using in-app-purchasing, and this is where I personally think you have gone wrong. In-app-purchasing may work for game developers, but as Tiffen Filtrs discovered when they introduced this model in their photo app, it was not liked by us iPhoneographers and generated negative feedback (a little bit like your app has done here).

If an app is going to be free, then it should be fully functional and free, and so I would recommend reviewing your app, adding all the functionality in and charging for it, as just like when ReelDirector was released, the high price put some people of making the initial purchase, but after 1 or 2 people had, and posted positive feedback, the app purchases began.

I hope the above comment helps.
