I'm guessing that it's purpose is "fun" ;)
It tickles my gadget nerve, but the practical use I agree with you is not that obvious...
I've gotta disagree - the practical side of this app is in the storing of the GPS data on images taken with it. It's fun, that's for sure, but it's also useful.
