New iPhone Photo App: AutoPan

*** Note: Only runs on iPhone 3GS ***

Description from the AppStore: There are some great panorama stitchers available for iPhone. This is NOT one of them. BUT, AutoPan, for iPhone 3GS, will allow you to quickly capture a series of photos with the right amount of overlap and at the same level with a single button press. Fed into a panorama tool like AutoStitch, or any other panorama stitching tool that allows you to import images from file, you can get that perfect panorama every time.

With this app and your favorite panorama stitcher you can take a 8+ fame panorama in a snap.

It is especially valuable when you want to produce a panorama that has a wide vertical angle. For this you need to make two passes, one to capture the lower half frames and a second pass, aiming higher to catch the upper half. With autopan, you simply make two passes one with a tilt of 30⁰ and one at 50⁰ to capture the perfect frame set.

Using the iPhone 3GS compass and inclinometer, AutoPan gives you a heads up display showing you the heading and elevation of the camera. As you turn, the application will automatically take and store the photo's.

Editors comments: To be honest I am not sure if this app is useful or not, as AutoStitch in my opinion does a pretty good job of creating a panoramic even from badly framed shots. If anyone has this app, then please let us know what you think of it.

I for one find the app very useful. I agree that autostich is good, most of the time., but not every-time. If you take a lot of panorama shots as I do as part of my profession, it is very useful. I can get that two dimensional wide angle series every time. Believe me this is worth $1.99, especially on a rainy day!

Yes SolarPro I agree with your comments, this is helping me get the perfect panorama every time. Maybe you don't "need it" but it sure is a lot easier than doing it manually.
