The iPhoneography Showcase of Maique Madeira

Taking photos is all i ever remember wanting to do. I've been shooting all sorts of cameras, from my dad's old rangefinder canonet to compacts, from m6 leicas to state of the art digital slrs, since i was old enough to hold one.

Lucky enough, i became a photographer.

Now a 38 year old photojournalist turned editor, with less and less assignments to shoot, I turned to the iPhone as the camera I must always have around, and haven't looked back yet. I even upgraded to the 3GS for the sole purpose of being able to enjoy the new camera that came with it. Coupled with my favorite apps (the amazing Tilt Shift Generator and ShakeItPhoto) i feel free to shoot everywhere and everything.

I've had this habit for a long time, i shoot everything i see, a sort of reminder of day to day stuff, as i have a very poor memory, and i've long given up on keeping a written journal. iPhoneography acts as a visual journal, one that i've been keeping for years, with different cameras. it's just more practical than with a regular camera.

I walk miles and miles, everywhere, in the pleaseant company of my sister, a recent convert to iPhoneography, and a couple of friend photographers, also true believers, i dare say, in the power of the iPhone as a photo tool. Walking and shooting stuff that catches my eye, away from the must-do assignment shots, has become a favorite pastime of mine. Sometimes it's like the feeling of shooting for pleasure one had at the very begininng is back again.

Usually i share the results in a posterous blog (for the day-to-day shakeItPhoto fake polaroids), and all the others end up at a tumblr site. Both are fed by email, as i find this perfect for this type of photography. Shoot, edit and publish, all from the iPhone, nothing else is needed. I like this kind of freedom and what it allows you to do.

Lo-Mob is a recent addition to the stable of photo apps, and i found it to be perfect for the vintagy look i wanted for some of the Rome shots, where all these photos came from. Minor stuff is handled by PhotoForge (the real photoshop on the iPhone, as far as i believe) and photoshop mobile

You can follow Maique on skinnyShots, Posterous or Twitter.

Please note: Due to a backlog of Showcases, I am not currently accepting any new submissions, however there will be a new feature coming in 2010 for which submissions will be invited for very soon.

When purchasing a camera I went to a photographer friend for advice and he told me that "it's not the camera that takes a great picture but the person behind it". Your iphone shots certainly prove that to be true.

I loved your bio and that last photo of yours is so lovely. The tilt shift worked perfect on that.
