New iPhone Photo App: ShowTime - Video Recorder

Description from the AppStore: ShowTime allows you to record video on the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G.

Twice the frame rate and higher resolution than other video recorders on the App Store.

Recording Format:

  • 320 x 240 px @ 6 fps
  • 16-Bit Audio @ 22.05kHz
  • Motion JPEG File format

No time limit on recording. Record for as long as you want, or until you phone runs out of free space.

Video files can be emailed and played on your computer in QuickTime or other video playback software supporting Motion JPEG.

Editors comments: I can describe this app in one word "BUGGY".

The problems I have found so far are:

  • It only allows you to record in portrait mode, if you shot in landscape you loose the left and right hand side of the video.
  • Files are stored so you can compress them later, which is a nice feature, however I found that the thumbnails for deleted videos would reappear. For example the first video you shoot will be 000.avi and a thumbnail will get generated by the app, then if you delete this video and reshoot, so you have replaced 000.avi with a new video, the thumbnail remains the same as the very first 000.avi you shot.

On a plus side, the videos captured with this app looked quite smooth, however work needs to be done to iron out these bugs.

Are you getting audio with your recordings? The few I've done so far don't seem to have any sound. Video looks nice though on my 1st gen iPhone

@Rich. There was audio on my test, but the volume was so low it was useless.

Could you please explain how to delete the videos?

@Roger. Just swipe your finger from right to left and delete will appear.
