Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 10:47AM |
Glyn Evans I've not had time to try out this app, but today 1Shoot from developer Wuonm is available fro FREE. I'm not sure how long this app will be priced FREE, so I would suggest grabbing a copy and trying it out for yourself.
Below is a video review of 1Shoot by Jerad Hill over at 'The Daily App Show'
Description from the AppStore: With 1Shoot photos are not saved to camera roll immediately. They are kept at the bottom of the screen (see screenshot below) where you will be able to review them before saving or throwing it away.
There are 3 Shoot Modes:
- Steady: photo is triggered by iPhone accelerometer
- Touch: tap anywhere on the screen
- Timer: 5 or 10 seconds countdown
--- Instructions ---
Steady Mode
- Point the phone and hold it steady until the photo is taken. Keep it steady if you want further photos of the same target. Move it after the photo is taken to change target. There is a "car mode" to use on the road leaving you phone in a stand.
Touch Mode
- Point the phone and tap the screen to take the photo. Use a short and fast tap trying not to move the phone.
Timer Mode
- Choose your time, 5 or 10 seconds, then put the phone in some safe and solid place, tap the screen to start the countdown and go to occupy your place in the picture. Photo is taken when the countdown finishes.
How to Change Mode
- 2 taps on screen ➟ menu
- 1 tap on menu buttons ➟ make your selection
- 1 tap on top-left badge ➟ pause/resume
Photo Slider
- Swipe the slider left or right to see all taken photos.
- 2 taps on thumbnail ➟ save to camera roll
- 1 tap on thumbnail ➟ photo preview (tap the photo to dismiss)
- 1 tap and hold until the thumbnail changes its size, then drag out the slider ➟ remove the photo

1Shoot will be free for a long period. For ever if possible. We plan to add premium paid features on top of the core functions that will remain free.
Right now there are 3 new paid features available:
- Restore Slider: Photos stored in Slider, at the bottom of the screen, will be restored in next application run.
- Autosave: photos will be saved automatically right after taking them.
- Burst Photography: Take more that 1 photo every time you shoot. It's available in all modes.
As a 3GS owner I have always been able to record video and felt sorry for 3G users having to Jailbreak to enable this ability with Cycorder, but that has ended today as the free Ustream Live Broadcaster App has just landed in the app store.
It enables video live broadcasting through Ustream on the 3G and 3GS to the net / Ustream app users / local storage on the 3G which you can save and view anytime in the app or upload to Youtube/Facebook ect at a later point.
Its looks like Knocking Live video paved the way for video on the 3G and Ustream made it useful!
One of my friends testing Ustream Live Broadcasting on a 3G just told me the resolution is stuck at 320X240 at the moment which is a bit depressing, but it is working quite well over a 3G connection and its free video recorder for 3G users so it can't be all bad. I hope it encourages the development of new apps using the same API for video recording at a better resolution in the future though making it a more viable tool to the iPhone user.
Ok it appears the working quite well over 3G connection is actually a true glimpse into how laggy and sideshow like it is at certain points as it didn't improve completely on wifi/local recording on the 3G. Still intermittently choppy video is better than no video for 3G users right... Maybe Cycorder's still got its place until a few bug fixes are made to this new video app release!
This app is a little...odd. And I was really ready to dismiss it as yet enother sub-standard photo app that wasn't worth bothering with. And even though the interface is weird and the icons are (at first) cryptic, this thing has one feature that for me kindof makes up for all the weirdness: the thumbnail slider mechanism. For the way I take phtos, this feature is really useful: you can see previews of your pics as you take them, but you have the option to save or delete them as you go. Really handy. FotoTimer used to have a preview-before-save feature that I loved and used for almost all of my photo taking, but since it was removed in the last version I've been looking for a suitable replacement app. The thumbnail feature in 1Shoot is actaully an improvement on the idea, and for me may just be enough of a 'killer feature' to overlook the app's odd interface and make it my go-to camer replacement app. And yes it supports full res on the 3GS.
