iPhone App Review: MoloPix

Launch MoloPix and you are present with a simple interface with 4 large buttons/icons that you touch to select the number of photo's you want to take to make up your image. You have the options of shooting 2 photos (side by side), 4 hoto's (side by side), 4 photo's (2 top, 2 bottom) or 6 photo's (3 top, 3 bottom). Also on the home screen is the customary "i" for information aboy the app, and that's it.

After you have launched the app and chosen your style it is time to get shooting, and for my test I chose 4 photo's (2 top, 2 bottom). After selecting the style the app launches its camera interface screen that allows you to select auto or manual shutter mode. In auto mode the sequence of photo's is taken as the options suggests automatically, where as in manual mode you have to tap the camera icon to take your photo's, which is the mode I prefer as it allowed me to frame each photo and have control over the end result. If you decided to shoot in auto mode, then you can select the time delay between each photo from from .25 seconds to 2 seconds, and this is represented by fast, med and slow.
After you have selected your mode it is time to begin shooting, and this is done by touching the camera icon regardless of shooting mode. For my test I wanted to have full control over the subject, so as mentioned before I opted for manual mode, which allowed me to take my time and frame each shot. After you have taken each shot you are presented with a preview screen with the options to save, discard or share. Now if you deside to share, then after registering you can upload you photo to the MoloPix website for others to see, however if you decide not to upload straight after taking your photo's there does not seem to be an option to upload later.
Overall this is quite a good app, but does have the following 2 major flaws.

  1. When taking photo's there is no shutter sound, or other indicator to say that you have successfully taking a photo.
  2. You can't upload photo's to MoloPix website after you have saved them.

Despite these 2 negative points, as my test photo shows, given the right subject you can get some interesting results, all in 5 easy steps.
The 5 easy steps to a MoloPix:

  1. Launch the app
  2. Select the style
  3. Select shutter mode
  4. Take photo's
  5. Share or save photo's

Thanks for the great review. We're planning to add a shutter sound and visual indicator for the next version (hopefully out in a week or two) along with some other goodies.

Good point about not being able to share after saving - we'll see if we can come up with a good solution for that.
