Mini App Review: FocalLab

FocalLab is another one of those apps that offers the ability to produce soft focus effect photos on your iPhone. FocalLab has the choice of 3 filter styles, which includes "Soft Focus", "Zoom Blur" and "Motion Blur". Which ever effect you decide to use on your photos, the intensity of the effect is controlled by a slider, with the effect radiating from the center of the photo. In addition to these effects you can also convert your photos to "Black and White", and combine with any one of the above focus effects.
Having bought and played with this app over the past couple of days, my first impression are that this is a well thought out app, with a fairly nice, simple and slick interface, ....
....however this app does goes up against the likes of TiltShift and Photo fx. Whilst these other apps equal or better the soft focus effect, FocalLab has a Zoom Blur and Motion Blur effect that makes it stand out from these other two. Whether these 2 features make it worth adding this app to the photo apps already on your iPhone is only something you can decide, especially if you already have either TiltShift or Photo fx. If however, you do not have either TiltShift or Photo fx, then FocalLab may meet your requirements, however for me Photo fx offers better fetaures for the money.
