Glyn Evans About me & my photography
I love photography. I have a beautiful Sony A-100 DSLR that I cherish. But there’s something inherently rewarding and challenging about making a cameraphone pic look great that I’m drawn to. The process of making the most from meager tools intrigues me. And while the iPhone is an amazing piece of technology, it's camera is far from it.
In fact, I’ve always liked low rent. Remember Polaroid’s last attempt to be “relevant”? It was like 1999 or 2000 and they made these small cameras that used special Polaroid film that produced pictures that were about 1 inch by 2 inch. I know…it’s no mystery they’re out of business. Anyways, I received one as a gift and fell in LOVE with the odd perspective, crappy pictures, and all around…low-rent-edness of the whole thing.
Above: Hourglasses: Inspiration strikes at the funniest times. We were in a shop in a mall when the light hit these hourglasses just so...and well, had to pull out the iphone. After a little PhotoFX to punch up the color, this is what you get.
Above: Laundromat: There is nothing more monotonous than a few hours lost at a laundromat. And something strange takes over people when they're at a laundromat. Everyone looks half-dead, bad generic music invariably gets played over the small speakers, and the hum of laundry machines fills the air. It's truly awful. So I took a picture. Factor in some PhotoFX to add some saturation and definition....there you have it.
Above: Pier: I love this photo. The texture of the wood...the pier extending to infinity...the strange muted color of the planks....the screws in the foreground. This just works for me. I used the Helga setting of Camerabag to add a little romance to it.
Above: Runningbaby: My son, a park, the sun, and a lucky shot. That's pretty much what you're looking at. I had to use PhotoFX to darken it up a bit and tone back the sunlight...the highlights are crushing in it's original form. But I'm ecstatic with the final product. Probably my favorite photo ever.
Above: Socketjesus: It was at dusk, the window was open, and the light cast in combination with the candle beneath this (that you can't see in the picture), created a great texture on the wall and a great ambiance for the picture. This is about as religious as I get. Used PhotoFX to dial up the warmth on this one.
And as much as I want to be that person who always has their "nice" camera with them...to catch that great shot whenever and where ever it happens...I'm not. But now...I sort of am. In a low-rent way.
As for the title of my site...it's from a Morrissey lyric. "I'm calling you from the foyer of this awful hotel. It's not low life. It's just people...having a good time."

very nice stuff Andy. The IPhone is a little joy when it comes to picture taking.
