iPhone App Review: PhotoEffect
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:02PM |
Glyn Evans PhotoEffect is a simple application that applies preset effects to your iPhone photos.
The Application
Launch the app and the iPhone's camera interface launches immediately, which is annoying if you want to apply effects only to your saved photos. It would have been better to have been taken to the photo album first, but it is only a simple tap on the cancel option to get to the photo album.
When you tap on cancel you are taken to the apps interface, which is really simple. Across the bottom of the home screen you have 3 icons, which going from left to right are as follows.

- Camera icon - tap this to launch the camera interface.
- Photo icon - tap this to open the photo album and select a photo to edit.
- Gear icon - this takes you to the settings menu, where you can turn on/off "High Contrast", "Flash Light" and set the photo size, which is either 600 x 800 or 900 x 1200.

Applying Effects
To apply an effect to your photos, tap the photo icon, select your photo and then choose the effect from the preview screen, and then when done tap the floppy disc icon and you photo is saved. If you don't like the effect, a simple tap of the undo icon takes you back to the preview screen, where you can select another effect.

So What Did I Think?
Whilst this app is not going to win any prizes, it does offer some nice effects like Retro, Toy Camera and Pop Art, with the addition of High Contrast and Flash Light (vignetting) with the minimum of effort.
Above: Vintage effect with Flash Light on.
Above: Pop Art effect. The only negative thing I can say about this app, is its price tag of £1.19 ($1.99) is a little too high compared to other apps of this type, and I would like to see the price dropped to £0.59 ($.99) or more effects added, but other than this, this is a nice little app.
