Wipe out noise with NoiseBlaster

NoiseBlaster from the developer of Photogene is a real simple app that promises to remove noise from underexposed/low light photos taken with your iPhone by using an advanced algorithm.

The App

Launch the app, and on the home screen you have 4 buttons to tap on, Take photo, Edit existing photo, Settings and Information, which are all self explanatory.

The only configuration options that you have with this app can be found under Settings, which are limited to the size of the photo when saved.

The controls for this app are clean and easy to use, simply select edit existing photo, load one from the photo album and your off. Across the bottum of the editing screen you will see 4 icons, and going from left to right they are:

  • Colors - it is here that you have the option to adjust the Exposure and Contrast with the use of 2 slider controls, but don't worry if you make a mistake as here you will also find a Reset buttun.
  • Denoise - this is where you remove the noise from your iPhone photos, again with the use of a slider control. When you are in the process of removing the noise you get a split screen view, the left hand side showing the original image, and the right hand side showing the Denoised one. In this mode you can also zoom and pan around the image to check the effect in different areas of the photo. When you are happy with the result touch Apply and and the noise is gone.
  • Settings - here you set the size of the photo, which can be saved up to 1600 x 1200.
  • Done - when you have finished tweaking your photo, simply touch done and you photo is saved.

What did I think of the app?

This app was really easy to use, and editing can be done in portrait or landscape mode. The results were quite impressive when viewed on the small screen of the iPhone, but sadly due to that fact that the results are acheieved by blurring and blending the pixels together, the end results are disappointing when viewed on a computer as the results below show.
