Is free Funky?

Glyn Evans Yesterday saw the release of multiple apps from developer BeFunky, and with such a wide range of free apps I decided to try a couple of them out, to see just what you get for free.
I decided to try out Cartoonizer and Warholizer, and these were really easy and straight forward to use.

Above: Warholizer effectLaunch any of the apps and you are presented with a splash screen that tells you exactly what to do, and the 2 options are load a photo from your album, or take a photo with the camera.
If you decided to load a photo from your album as I did, you are then presented with the available effects, and instructions to select your desired effect to upload!!
This is where these apps differ from other photo apps in the AppStore, in that your photo is uploaded to BeFunky's servers, processed with your chosen effect and then made available for you to save back to your camera roll, shared via email (which is not very good), or apply a different effect.
Overall these apps seem to produce some nice effects, however the saved images are an unusual 305 x 407 pixels in size. To use these apps, you will need to have a data connection, which make these more like WebApps than standalone ones.

Interestingly if you visit BeFunky's website you will find online versions of these apps, so if you like and want these effects you have two choices, either load the app to your iPhone, or use their online service, but bear in mind you will need a internet/data connection for the iPhone apps.
One thing you will find is that the iPhone apps display small adverts on the screen, and the online version stamps the finished result with a BeFunky logo and website address.
If you can put up with the adverts, the need for a data connection and the small file sizes, then these apps may be worth a look, but for me I want a real app that does not rely on any network tethering.
