Polaroid and the AppStore
Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 8:14AM |
Glyn Evans Last week I posted an article entitled "Are Polaroid threatening the existence of Polaroid effect apps in the AppStore?", where I question if Polaroid were trying to kill off apps that emulated or included the Polaroid effect. Well today 2 new apps appeared in the AppStore (ShakeIt & ShakeIt Lite) that clearly emulate the Polaroid effect. These apps not only produce photos with that retro Polaroid effect, but the way in which they are produced are clear copies of the Polaroid process
- Take or import photo
- Shake
- Wait 90 second for the photo to develop
Whilst I like these apps, I have 2 questions:
- What is going on in the AppStore, are Polaroid blocking apps, or is it Apple just being over cautious?
- Why are some apps being delayed, when blaintant copying of the Polaroid effect is being approved?
If anyone knows or has any thoughts, then please post your comments.

well, i do not have an answer for your question.. and i do not even know these apps.. but! shaking a polaroid-picture (at least not the self-developing integralfilms) never brought the advantages we thought it would. even the polaroid corp. announced, that shaking shouldn't be done. well.. my question is then: how could polaroid block apps because they show an behaviour they always said wasn't necessary. And as for the "development" of pictures.. Even in dark rooms picture develope "themself" ... well, not exactly they way the app probably shows it.. but.. yeah.. beside having the framing, i would see no copy at all.. and believe me, i'm a huge polaroid fan.
