Steve Jobs, and why the iPod Touch has no camera

Glyn Evans As you all now know the heavily tipped iPod Touch with camera did not materialise at the Apple 09.09.09 event last week. In an interview with The New York Times technology columnist David Pogue, Steve Jobs said....
“Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine”
“We started to market it that way, and it just took off. And now what we really see is it’s the lowest-cost way to the App Store, and that’s the big draw. So what we were focused on is just reducing the price to $199. We don’t need to add new stuff. We need to get the price down where everyone can afford it.”
Whilst this may be the official line, the reason seems more likely to be due to technical issues, which seem to have been upheld by the discovery of a space inside the new iPod Touch that could accommodate a camera.
Whatever the reason I am sure within the next 6 months we will see the release of an iPod Touch with camera, but for now Apple have missed this boat, and so many of their customers are missing out on this unique photographic experience.

Yes, I was a bit disappointed with this. My 6 year old daughter has been given one of our old 1G touch devices, with no speaker etc. She loves playing games on it, but has to plug in an external speaker device if she wants audio. She also has a digital camera and loves taking photo's. I was hoping the rumours to be true, as I would have bought a new touch for her Christmas present, which would have, of course, been able to do both jobs with one device. She would have absolutely loved it. Now, I am not so sure. We may have to hold off, and wait for the inevitable inclusion of a camera on a later model.
