New iPhone Photo App: Night Camera Zoom

Description from the AppStore: Based on the hit "Night Camera", Night Camera Zoom adds the zoom ability and wide/square photo support.

First, Night Camera Zoom offers three modes for your convenience:

  • Standard (with fullscreen shutter support)
  • Stable (accelerometer opens the shutter only when the iPhone is steady)
  • Timer

You have four color options:

  • Color
  • B/W Grayscale
  • Sepia
  • Hard Light (a dramatic effect best for well lit outdoor photos)

You have the following photo ratios to pick from:

  • Standard 4x3
  • Wide 16x9
  • Square

You have the 4x digital zoom, and 3x3 grid option

And many other options:

  • Fullscreen shutter in all modes
  • Resolution (full 1600x1200 vs quick 427x320)
  • Time stamp
  • Auto save (no confirmation needed)
  • Timer delay
  • Accelerometer sensitivity under Stable mode

Editors comments: Where is the free OS 3.1 update for all existing Night Camera owners? I hope the addition of the zoom feature does not mean existing owners will be left out in the cold!!

If you don't already own Night Camera, then this new version with added features may be worth buying, but don't buy this app just for the zoom, as there is a better one out there.

And which one is the better one Glyn? Would that be Zoom Lens?

Hi Greg, you got it. I was part of the beta testers group, and whilst the results are poor on the 2 megapixel 3G, they should be good on the 3GS, so come recommended.

This is kind of lame, so developers instead of updating they are making completely new apps, epic fail. guess 99c buyers are not worthy of updates, or is this from a new dev.

I bought it when it became live in the store and you are right. It is good. Does a great job of zooming in though there is the usual noise problem as with any Digital zoom. It's a very nice app.

Does anyone have a comparison of Night Camera Zoom and Camera Genius? Is it worth buying the former if I already have the latter?

@Scott. I already have Camera Genius, and I would not buy Night Camera Zoom, as the features are too similar.
