Dutch iPhone photography competition, my winners are

If you read my post about the winners of the Dutch iPhone photography competition, then you will know that due to differences between myself and the other two judges, I withdrew my support for the competition.

I was a little unsure at first whether I should write this post, as my comments will probably alienate myself from certain quarters, but after giving it some thought, I decided that it was only fair for all those who took the time and effort to enter the competition to understand the reason for my withdrawal.

I must point out at this stage, that my withdrawal had NOTHING to do with the iPhoneclub blog itself or the editor Gonny van der Zwaag, in fact Gonny were very supportive of my decision.

So what went wrong?

Just prior the the close of the competition I sent an email to all involved suggesting we should create our own shortlists of favourite photos on the competitions Flickr page and share our list via email. The reason for the suggestion was for two reasons,

  1. Logistically we could not meet to discuss and vote, we were doing this all in a virtual world.
  2. Because of point 1 above, any photos appearing on 2 or more of the judges shortlist would automatically go forward to round 2 of the judging, making the selection process much easier.

Whilst I had a reply from one of the other judges, no lists we ever forthcoming, and then just prior to me travel to London for a short break it was suggested that we all participated in an iChat session to decide on the winners, something that I and one of the other judges were unable to do.  Then whilst on my break emails started arriving listing the competition winners, no shortlist, just winners. After a couple of emails between myself and one of the other judges it soon became apparent that the other two judges were running the show, and so I had no choice but to withdraw myself from the judging panel.

Anyway, that's my little explanation and rant out of the way, and whilst I can not award any prizes I have decided to select my own 4 winners and post their photos below.  I'd also like say a big thank you to all those who took the time to enter, and whilst I ultimately did not end up voting I did enjoyed looking through the entries.

My winners, which you may or may not agree with, are:

Above: This was my 1st place winner, which I liked because of the way it captured the moment.Above: This was my 2nd place winner, and like the overall composition.Above: This was my 3rd place winner, and I just like the way all the elements have been captured.Above: This was my 4th place winner, and as you all probably know, I like this Lomo type effect, and the orange car grabbed my eye.If you would like to see all of the entries, then you can check out the competitions Flickr stream here, and then why not let me know if you agree with my selection, have a some favourites of your own, or even if you agree or disagree with the other two judges decission.
