The iPhoneography Showcase of Florian Meissner

"The future is point and shoot"

Long story short: my first day in New York this summer. New City, new country, new subway, all excited, on the way to the office...my digital SLR stolen, my new iPhone not. "Great start", I thought, "Why didn't you take my damn phone, you bugger"! Well, New York is expensive. So instead of getting a new one I found consolation in the age old saying “the best camera you have is the one you have with you.” Surprisingly true. Not so surprising when you take a look behind the scenes.

Despite low end digital quality, lacking zoom, autofocus, quick exposure and flash, the iPhone managed to take over a fast growing niche in the point and shoot segment. Just looking at the most popular cameras used on the photo sharing site Flickr for example. The iPhone is second but very close to being the most popular camera used to upload photos to the service. Today, people tend to immediately upload their photos from whatever phone their using to Facebook or their other social networks and generate conversations around them: the future is not only point and shoot, but also upload. And the iPhone already plays a crucial role in this competitive game.

Well, personally I still don't have a new SLR...

All of the images featured were created using Apple's 3rd-generation iPhone 3G using free  applications such as Polarize or SnapBox. Most of the pictures were taken in New York, while some others were snapped in places like Berlin, Boston, London, Rome, Vienna, etc...Feel invited to check out my other stuff at http://www.flickr.com/photos/venedig or follow me on www.twitter.com/flomeissner. Enjoy the rest of your summer."

If you would like to showcase your iPhone photos here on the iPhoneography blog, then send me an email and I'll reply with details on how to submit.
