New iPhone Photo App: ArmsLength

Description from the AppStore: The fast, fun, face-detecting self-portrait application! Simply indicate where you would like your face to appear in the frame and ArmsLength will TELL YOU which direction to point the camera for the perfect shot.

Save to your Camera Roll or Email it (or both).

Highly accurate face detection, even in poor lighting conditions.

  • 3 high quality voices.
  • Auto save option.
  • Options to vibrate the phone both before and after the picture is taken.
  • In-App Tips & Tricks.

AppStore Link: ArmsLength - Price £0.59/$0.99

Editors comments: I was fortunate enough to beta test this app, and my suggested tweaks and use of real voices were implemented.

The app itself is real easy to use, and after you have set your preferences, then all that is left to do is set the size of the frame you want your head/face to fill, press the camera icon, hold the iPhone away from you with the camera facing you, and then follow the voice prompts to snap your self-portrait.

What do I think of ArmsLength?

I found this app easy to use and the results were accurate, and despite the fact that I had some input in to this app, I have no hesitation in recommending it if you you want/need to take your self-portrait.

As one of the beta testers I can confirm that the next release of ArmsLength will include...

  • the ability to specify the minimum number of faces to find
  • direct upload to flickr
  • localization for other languages

Also I have 5x promo codes for ArmsLength, so if you have a US iTunes account and would like one, then just post you request in the comments section of this post, and I will randomly pick 5 winners.

This sounds like an interesting concept. Please include me in the drawing.

I'd like to try this out too. :)

Please include me in the drawing. I've been using lots of "auto-portrait" apps but haven't yet found the right one; could this be it?

This sounds like a really useful program. Taking self-shots is so hard otherwise. Please consider me for a free promo code!!

I'm interested to try it out if I could have one of the codes. Thank you. I will write a review after using it for about a week.

No way did I wait. I bought it! I've been frustrated by other apps that claim to do what this one does. And they do. Sorta. Maybe. Sometimes... But they get confused. Or I get confused. Or both. Not so with ArmsLength! First shot was perfect. Simple. Functional. Love it. Don't wait on the off chance you'll get it free. It works and is way underpriced already...

I just bought Camera ClickMe. I wonder how this compares... (I guess I'll find out if I win...)

Would be nice to get the app.
Hope will win :)
Heard about "Auto Portrait". Is this one better?

January 18, 2010 | Unregistered Commentervvvlad

Looks quite interesting. Would love to be considered for this. :)

Sounds awesome. It's weird seeing so many people's comments, whenever they want a code hahaah

Would love one of these -------

Hey, why wait for a code? For $.99, this app is an absolute steal. I went ahead and downloaded it and tried it out and out of the half dozen or so auto detection apps I've tried this is hands down the best one so far. Thanks for sharing.

19th. That gives me a 1 in 4 chance.
mwahwhahahahahahaha

Hey I would love that code. Funny how when you are giving away codes you get so many comments on your posts. LOL. Anyway cheers on the beta test suggestions being put in to the program.
