Awesomer gets some more awesomeness

Back in October I announced the release of an interesting little app called Awesomer, well yesterday this app got it's first major update, adding a whole bunch of new effects.

Awesomer effects are:

  • Awesomer
  • Black and White
  • Blue-Red False Color
  • Cosmic Microwave
  • Hypsometric
  • Infrared
  • Negative
  • Night Vision
  • Ultraviolet

Above: The original photo with no Awsomer awesomenessAbove: The 9 different Awesomer effectsWhen this app was first released, it was very buggy, and so when I saw this new update, I had hopped for all the bugs to have been ironed out, but sadly this is not the case, as all the same bugs are still there and some new ones have now been introduced.  As my screen-cast below shows, the app is still very very slow when doing anything, and on my iPhone 2G and 3G the app crashed after each edit.  In addition to these bugs, the app still loads the photo at full res and does not auto resize or allow you to resize to view the whole image, and if you look across the top of the screen you will notice the apps menu is partly cut off, which the developer should have spotted and corrected before release.

What this app needs is a major rework, a new interface and more importantly all the bugs to be fixed!!

Despite all this, this app can produce some unique and unusual effects, and if you can put up with the bugs, then it is worth trying, although the price tag of £1.19/$1.99 for a buggy app may put many off.

Definitely not worth the 1.99. This things still saves all the photos in landscape mode. Besides all the bugs you mentioned this is a real sloppy update.

I don't think I would ever have a need to turn my pictures purple or green; in fact, none of the examples above appeals to me at all.

For me on my 3GS I have never had it crash before or after the update. It always saves my photos correctly (i never load a portrait image & have a saved landscape pic). I saw the new bug error with the top of the screen overlapping the buttons & the image scaling after applying an effect has always been there & has always been annoying to say the least. But... I instantly contacted the developer about these & he is submitting a bug fix update to address both issues. Other than that...... This app is just FUN! & can be compared to LOFI in it's vivid style of effects. A worthy addition & if you can put up with the few annoying errors that do not take away from the fun effective results you can obtain get the app now & or wait a week or two & have the next updated version.

Pat, I have a 3GS also and from day 1 every single photo I load into this app and they have all been portrait, have come out in landscape. Very annoying.

@greg that is very odd indeed.
My iPhone is up to date on all OS updates if the chance yours isn't that might play a roll but I am only making a guess here.

No, that isn't it. All updates are in place. Maybe if I delete it and then reinstall it, though I believe I have done that before.
