Price drop: Hipstamatic

Again, I'm not sure is this is a one day only sale or not, but just like Camera Prime, Hipstamatic is on sale priced at just £0.59/$0.99/€0.79.

The in-app purchases are still the same price, but I think this is the lowest price I've ever seen for the Hipstamatic app itself, and so if you don't already have this app, and have wondered what all the hype has been about, then now could not be a better time to grab yourself a copy.

for me, this app is probably the most over-rated photography app out there. its very very hard to get a unique shot.. and effect with this app, without it looking like some 14 year old girls hipster photo..

for 59p though, its worth it, just a shame there is inn-app purchases..
for anybody buying this for the first time, please note.. u only get 3 lenses and 3 films , the rest you have to buy.

"Only" 3 lenses and 3 films (and 2 flashes) - which is plenty to make it head & shoulders above most apps, because these are extremely well done.

I can understand that some people want to "create their own art" rather than have Hipstamatic do a lot of the work for them, and for those people PictureShow is a better app. But Hipsta can and does create some amazing shots, and it's not a substitute for an artistic eye.

A lot of apps like Hipsta are fun, but does anybody think it's getting a bit much? Does everybody realize these are just filters? Or is there something I am missing. I'm not ranting I just think it would be nice to see more iphoneographers with more of street/photojournalism style.

"Only" 3 lenses and 3 films (and 2 flashes) - which is plenty to make it head & shoulders above most apps, " you think ? its hard to get any origionality from any of those lenses and films.. as "MR" said above me.. these are just filters.. and i can list atleast 10 apps which are better then hipstamatic thus proving my personal opinion that it is an over-rated application. the origional price of this app is not worth 3 filters, and 3 lenses in my opinion.. oh and the 2 flashes ( which is hardly awe-inspiring ) its just an orange smudge.

for anybody out there who wants a better alternative - PictureShow or Plastic Bullet produce nicer effects.

In defense of Hipstamatic, while there are other apps that take great pics, Hipstamatic is, just, well, FUN. It's one of the few apps that takes me back to the more organic film process of experimenting on the fly, taking a new camera or lens or film out to the beach or to a party, taking a bunch of shots and waiting to see what happened when I got it back from the lab a week later.
Does it take more dissapointing shots than other apps? Certainly. Is there the chance of a really thrilling, stars aligning, magical moment captured in a way I wouldn't have though of? Yes, and thats the fun, rather than the clinical application of filters and apps to achieve a known affect.

In my opinion, this is one of the best apps out for the iPhone. It's the closest thing I've seen to making it look like an analog camera. It reminds me of taking an alternative process class. It's not for everyone and some people do find it overrated, but there are other apps that I think are over rated. I use Hipstamatic for just about everything I shoot and I'm doing the 365 day project.
