The 185 version didn't fix the indefinite iTunes login screen. I still get it every time I open Hipstamatic. Regardless of the bugs and crashes, this still remains my favorite photo app of all. :)
I experienced the iTunes password bug and have been following the discussion on the Hipstamatic support forum. It is not clear that this update has fixed the problem, despite what the developer says.
Also, the "restore purchases" option as well as the basic in-app purchase system for the two latest add-on paks -- Dali and Levis -- still seem to be causing problems for at least a few users who have posted on the support site. I do not believe the Hipstamatic 185 upgrade has completely repaired these bugs.
I do believe, however that the problems are solvable by a tedious process of deleting and reinstalling the app, then loading the add-on paks one at a time. Afflicted Hipstas should check the support forum for more details.
Synthetic deserves credit for trying to address this issue in a timely fashion, but I don't think they've quite figured out what's really happening, which seems to be rooted in some problematic interaction with the App Store, rather than in the core of the app itself.
I never had a problem with the iTunes password bug UNTIL AFTER this latest update. As it's an awesome app that is so much fun I'll cut them some slack. Im sure they will get it all worked out.
I'm on the beta team, the devs have heard about this issue flaring up again and are working on figuring out why it's happening.
Honestly, I feel like I wasted a dollar. I don't see any difference using this lens @ all.
I just discovered this application last week, and love it. Now have purchased most of the additional add-ons, but I've had zero issues in any way, except one.
when i create the highest-resolution images, there is always a 1-pixel white border added on the left and top of images using the Blackeyes supergrain film. I'm not sure if the lens choice makes a difference (I'm still prefering the John S overall). Please take a look at my URL for samples. I had to change the theme to a white background on the site, as a dark blackground showed that 1-pixel left/top border (but not on the right or bottom).
I still don't understand why they haven't added post-processing, I hardly ever use Hipstatmic because it's just too tedious and slow, I'd much rather take a picture and apply effects later.
SAorry Hipsta...it's still buggy.
ALSO...how is it a "PAK" if there's only one thing in it? A lens is cool but no film and a buck apiece...c'mon folks.
I just started getting the iTunes pop ip issue with this last update :(
I thought we were gonna get a film with the Levi Pak too :(
The word is there's a free film coming for the holidays.
I like the Melodie lens a lot. @Kristin, you should try shooting the same subject with this lens and a few others, like Helga and John S and Robo Glitter. It has a distinct look, high-contrast and a little grainy, with overall blueish color cast. It's probably closest to Helga but the colors are more juiced-up.
Yesterday I did a christmas shoot with my iPhone. I have about 20 photo effects apps onboard (yes I know, totaly addicted); Hipstamatic always comes out best. A huge step forward would be if you could import original photos and could see low res previews of what all the effects would look like on your original. Alos the viewfinder won't show the exact frame of what your shooting. That can make a shoot a tiring experience.
Still....the best retro shoots in the appstore.
still buggy, still crashes a lot, still asks for that password every couple of minutes.
a post-processing option would be great, considering the time it takes to develop one, and the amount of crashes we have to deal with.
a bunch of photos have been lost because of this, but we've been asking for post-processing for so long, i'm guessing it will never show up.
a shame, because the filters are great, and no one comes close (most of instagram's options are not to my liking, but they do allow for post processing from day one)
i was also hoping for a new film with the levis pack, but there you go..
This is a good clean lens that I'm happy to have. There's definitely been some hiccups in the marketing tho:
1) It is totally unclear why they felt the need to tie in to Levi's on this.
2) They've done a very poor job of making it clear that all proceeds from this pak are going to charity. This is what makes it okay for me that it contains less equipment than most paks. (Technically it does contain more than one thing - besides the lens it also has a plaid "camera case". I suppose some people get excited about that sort of thing...)
3) They had a "release party" in NYC and posted lots of photos from it... problem is, they're all horribly composed and poorly lit photos.
Eric - "the viewfinder won't show the exact frame of what your shooting"
In your iPhone Settings app, find Hipstamatic in the list of installed apps. There you can change the viewfinder to "Precision Framing", and some other useful options as well.
still my favorite app, but still buggy. whenever i use the dali lens, the frame becomes obscured, all black except for one small square on bottom left. therefore, can't use this lens at all.
I really like the Melodie Lens - it does blue skies perfectly. Definately my favourite of the moment.
I downloaded the Levi's Pac when it was first available - I have not yet upgraded to 185, after reading some comments here, I am a bit reluctant to do so....!
I bought the Levi's add on as soon as I heard about the update! It was only a dollar. That's not bad for another camera skin and a new lens. I don't really have problems with bugs.
I am deleting this app because of the levi's product placement. Going to delete any app fom this developer as well. Not like I ever used them much but the paid product pacement is a but much for me.
I spoke too soon. I get the iTunes log-in weirdness, but I didn't BEFORE this update.
@rfbarr, I'm not sure the qualifies as "paid product placement." Here's how the project is described on the Levi's site:
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Hipstamatic and [photographer] Melodie McDaniel to create the Levi's® Photo Workshop Holiday GoodPak. All proceeds will benefit the Five Boroughs Foundation of Photography and Kids With Cameras. The limited edition GoodPak will be available from December 10th thru January 3rd."
The only place the name "Levi's" appears anywhere in the app is on the Hipstamart purchase screen. If you don't feel like kicking in a buck to this charitable cause then by all means keep it in your pocket or spend it on a pack of gum or something. My own opinion is that Melodie lens is worth the money, which is not going to Hipstamatic anyway. It seems that this cultural climate, a lot of people are just looking for something new to get indignant about.
