PMA Day 1: The Southern California Photo Expo

So day 1 of PMA (the Southern California Photo Expo) has been and gone, and my first 2 presentations are now complete.  Overall the event was a little disappointing for me, as there were only a handful of exhibitors, and by the time my sessions came around at 5PM and 6PM, most people had headed home.  Even so the presentations went off without any hiccups, and the few people who stayed and seemed to get something from it, so thanks to few who stayed.

Despite the small number of exhibitors at this consumer event, there was one company called DCWV Inc. who were demonstrating their Digital Scrapbook app for the iPhone called eScrap, and their Marketing Director Angela Ahn very kindly demonstrated the app for me.  The app should be due in the AppStore around March (more news on that to come), and looked pretty interesting, and should appeal to all you iPhone owning Digital Scrapbookers out there.

I rounded the evening off with a meal and a few drinks with Brad Malcolm and his team from Athentech the developers of Perfectly Clear, iPhoneographers Sion Fullana and Anton Kawasaki, and Marty Yawnick from Life in LoFi and his partner.

So that was day 1 of PMA out the way, and I am now just about to get ready and head out for day 2, so stay tuned for the next installment of iPhoneography at PMA 2010.

Glyn,

I too was very disappointed with the Photo Expo. The advertising for this event was great and I had many friends calling to see if I was going to it. Though I didn't travel to far to attend the Expo, it was something that the family was looking forward to. Due to other obligations, I came later in the day and was let in without having to pay the $25 admission price for my family. As we walked in the doors of the exhibit hall my wife and I just looked at each other and thought the same thing. We could not believe that the PMA was actually charging people to come to this.

We expected to see an exhibit floor full of vendors and to see many people excited about about photography and things of that nature. What we saw was a hand full of vendors, maybe 15 or 20. Most were half asleep or waiting to be relieved so they can redeem their drink coupons.

The only thing that wasn't a waste of time was seeing your iphone app presentation. I really never thought I would even consider using the iphone as a camera, but I would be using it more now. I especially like the stitching app, it looks kind of fun.

Well, it was nice meeting you. I hope you have a nice stay in California and I hope our weather gets back to normal, so you can enjoy some of our sun :)

Regards
Tony Le
