After what seems to have been a long and slow approval process, Hipstamatic 150 finally appeared in the AppStore today. To get this much awaited update just do a check for app updates via iTunes or your iPhone, and then enjoy.
Whilst there are a whole bunch of improvements and new features, one of the first things you will notice, and something I think is a very nice cosmetic tweak, is the inclusion of a film canister window on the rear of the camera, letting you quickly and easily see which film you have loaded (nice!!).
Above: The new look Hipstamatic 150 camera back showing the new film canister windowThe other improvements and new features for Hipstamatic 150 are....
Performance Improvements:
- Full resolution support (1200px square for 2G/3G, 1536px square for 3GS)
- Faster startup time
- Misc user interface improvements
Sharing Improvements
- Prints can now be posted to Flickr in-app
New Features
- Save favorite combos: A new button in the Gallery lets you "change camera lens, flash, and film to match this print"
- Shake-to-randomize: From the viewfinder you can shake your Hipstamatic to select a random lens, flash, and film
- Prints now have EXIF data with lens/flash/film information (accessible from within Hipstamatic only - not Photo Library)
- Film preview window on camera back
- Improved HipstaProcessing for greater variety in prints
New Flash and Films
- New free flash: Dreampop

Bug Fixes
- iPod music will now keep playing when opening Hipstamatic
- Fixed a bug where occasionally the flash would not fire, even when charged
- Other misc fixes
If you do not already have Hipstamatic, then I highly recommend grabbing a copy, as you will have lots of fun with it.

From the reviews it seems that to really enjoy this app you must make in app purchases. Can you tell me what they cost and how many there are? Thanks!
Nice update, and the Camden pack is very nice too.. (99c/59p)
still no ability to access the camera roll and post process. in my book this app is only going to be used once in a very very blue moon because of that. i wish the developers would listen to the user base. get over the whole "it is a concept" thing and just allow us to process pictures on the camera roll through the program. concept over functionality... hmmm. I guess I am the sucker through since i just spent the money on the hipstapack that just same with the update. I guess I just hope one day they will eventually add in camera roll support. one more time just for prosperity CAMERA ROLL SUPPORT!
^ It saves the pics to my camera roll
@Darren, what Robert is requesting, and something many others also want is the ability to load photos from the iPhone's camera roll, and apply the Hipstamatic effects to them. Based on what I have heard, I think they will release a separate app that will do this, but we will have to wait and see.
@Glyn
Releasing a second app in order to process from the camera roll would be a shady move in my book. There are allot of issues they would have to overcome. Would it just be a filter/effect studio? Would they require me to buy more "Packs" in order to get all the effects? I don't like the nickle and dimming potential that releasing another program that basically does that one program already creates. I was very displeased with the release of CrossProcess because I felt like it was basically an attempt to get more money out of the user. I would be even more upset if a program like Hipstamatic released another program to do something that should be done in the first place for any well built photo program. When I already have spent so much money on all their little packs and filters. If they do end up releasing a new program I will not buy it... not only will i not buy it I will never buy another HipstaPak for the Hipstamatic again. Basically the developer would loose any of my business. Dont have time to proof read because I have to run to lunch... I hope this is readable.
I personally love this app. To the point where I don't really use the standard photo application that comes with the Iphone anymore.
Although any kind of post-processing would be nice, I feel it would take away from the suprise of how your pictures sometimes come out. Which is excactly what you get shooting a real holga or any kind of lomo camera. In that sense, I think, this app captured the spirit of lomo perfectly. It also wouldn't be quite fair for the hipstamatic photo competitions if you could post-process pictures.
I'm not loosing any sleep over the add-on packs either. They're cheap and fun but I usually only use the lenses etc. that come with the app so the add ons really aren't a must what so ever.
It bugs me a little that you can only upload the pictures on to facebook 'in-app' and not from the facebook app directly. It takes away from the spontaneity of posting a picture when you have to jump back and forth between apps. I get why they do it like that though so again... no biggie.
The update is great btw. Adds a lot of fun.
Is there a video analog to this app? I mean, something that does the super 8 thing in an easy to use package for the iphone 3gs?
LOVE this app!!! ..... and I'm kinda picky. Like one of the other posters said .... I pretty much use this app more than the default camera.
Hipstamatic is great! It's not an app that gives you lots of control over the image outside of picking the lens/film/flash, but those constraints actually make the process more fun. It's more like shooting film, where you do your best to control the image, but get what you get. Additionally, Hipstamatic is smart in that it is FUN to use, it really feels like using a film camera.
The Big Hipstamatic show is also a very cool option, but seems inherently flawed in that people vote on your photos by tweeting about them. This makes it unfair in that people with more followers benefit, turning it in to a populatiry contest. I use flickr a lot, but don't use Twitter, so I'm behind the 8-ball on my latest entry. Still, it's a great idea and only encourages use of a fun app.
Can anyone tell me about the in-app purchases for this app? How many there are, and how much they cost? Thanks.
This update further builds up what is already a great selection of filters, making the inability to access Camera Roll for post-processing all the more lamentable.
The in-app purchases are $1 each. You usually get a film and a lens with that, though it varies.
