New iPhone Photo App: iQuikSplash

Description from the AppStore: The easiest way to splash color from your photo! No need to draw with your finger. Just load up a photo, and select a color to splash, and voila, you are done!

"Rank #7 in Top Free Photography App" - 20 Mar 2010

Check out AppliFX Pro too, which also includes this filter and more others, and continuously updated with new unique filters in the future.

iQuikSplash is created with mathematical algorithm. This app only works in Landscape orientation for best experience. And the photo used in this app will be resized to 640x480 pixels for fast operation.

QuikGuide:

  1. Tap the Load Photo button to load up a photo from camera roll or Photo Library.
  2. After the photo is loaded, tap the QuikSplash! Button in the middle. Another view will be brought up and tap the color you want to splash (The selected color will be shown in the left hand corner). Tap Done to splash the color.
  3. Adjust the amount to splash with the slider located at the right hand side of the main view.
  4. Tap checkout when you are satisfied with it, either to save to your device or publish to Facebook.

Editors comments: This app has a quirky UI, in that you have to work in landscape mode, but when loading a photo it prompts you to first rotate your iPhone clockwise and then rotate it anti-clockwise, which I found did not work every time.  Once the photo has loaded, then the app is straight forward to use, but as my photo below shows, the results are very very poor, and as per the app description it only saves at poor 640x480!!

The bottom line

Whilst this app may be free at the moment, it is still not worth the space on your iPhone, so if you are looking for an app that adds a splash of colour back in to a photo, then look no further than ColorSplash.

Looks like this app doesn't "selectively" color but rather just colors in all of one particular shade in the photograph, similar to the color-selective option on point and shoots. It is indeed messy!

Hello there. Thanks for reviewing my app in here.

The app was created to splash a color. Not an object. The app selectively highlights shades of the color you selected, in this case red. In case of a photo like yours here, you will need to use the "Area Quiksplash" function (added in Version 1.2) - where you can define the area you want to splash, but there is no need to be accurate, since the app will do the selection for you. Version 1.2 should be out in a day or so.

As for needing to rotate after loading a photo, that is requirement from Apple, the photo picker is not allowed to be shown in landscape mode (The app was rejected because of displaying the picker in landscape mode). I may switch the app to work in Portrait in the future if it bothers most users.

Thank you!
:)

@Rocotilos. Thanks for the feedback, and I look forward to reviewing the update. I really hate giving 0 stars, and so hope this update raises the apps rating.
