The iPhoneography Showcase of Cherie Stangis

About me: By day, I'm a psychologist but on nights, weekends and during any other free time I am a photographer. I bought my first DSLR 2 1/2 years ago and quickly upgraded from the Nikon D40x to the Nikon D90. I love the D90 and have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to use it properly. I've been fortunate to have my work featured in several shows sponsored by a local photography group, Exposure.Detroit.

In August of 2009 I was out with several other photographers and noticed one of them was taking all of his shots with his iPhone. When he put them on flickr, I really loved what he was able to capture merely using the iPhone camera. When my contract ran out with my cell phone carrier in December of 2009, I ran right out and bought an iPhone.

I immediately downloaded several different apps and became hooked instantaneously. I love how easy it is to carry my camera with me all the time and have become just a little bit obsessed with the Hipstamatic application. I've used my iPhone camera to shoot just about everything from urban decay, to landscapes to people. I never shot film, except for with a point and shoot, so the iPhone gives me a little insight into using a toy camera. While my photographer friends joke about my DLSR gathering dust, I will never retire my DSLR. However, I've found that I shoot with my iPhone about 30% of the time. It's fun, flexible and best of all, I'm never quite sure what I'm going to get!
