Coming soon: Film Lab

I've just been given the heads up on another new app coming to the AppStore soon, and that is Film Lab from developer CLBITZ Ubiquitous Communications Inc. the same developer behind RetroCamera.

I have just been sent a beta copy of the app, which on first impressions does have some similarities to RetroCamera, however unlike RetroCamera this new app supports full-res.

Below is the developers description and preview video.

Developers description: "FILM LAB" is a film simulation application program that transforms iPhone to the film camera. The variation of the film effect reaches as many as 79 kinds including a popular film such as Agfa, Ilford, Kodak, EES, and Fuji. The selection and the preview can quickly do these by excellent UI. Therefore, it is possible to try to one's heart's content. And, these effects can be done in the multiple. It is possible to return it to the previous state by undo at any time even if failing. Besides this, Calotype and Daguerreotype, Development technique such as "Split tone",Film effect such as Selenium and Polysulphide developers that reaches variously,"Color operation" and "Hue and chroma" adjustments that adjust the color balance and "Sharpness", "Blur", and "Brightness and contrast" adjustment functions are installed.

The main function:

  • Resolution: 352x480 - 2348x3200 output
  • The film simulation: 79 kinds
  • The color operation: 18 kinds
  • Hue and chroma adjustment

Sooo does that mean they are never coming out with full res for RC?

@Kristin. This is a very good question. Film Lab has some extra features on top of full res, so there is no reason why the developer should not add full-res to RetroCamera.

I hope that he does. But from the looks of this new app, it seems he may have forgotten about RC. I hope not though.

Hi Glyn, been following this blog for a while now. Love it!

I really hope the developers won't abandon those of us who spent money on RetroCamera and have been patiently waiting for the promised higher res. Is this something that you could maybe inquire with them? That being said, I am definitely interested in this new one as well.

BTW: for those interested this app I was informed with my Beta that this will sell for $0.99 so if all is correct that is a DEAL !

Cheers SCW

Film Lab sounds very promising. Was there an estimated release date?

March 28, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRodney

Yes I want to know release date as well! If SCW is right then I'm thinkin this app may very well supercede the upcoming Swanko Lab on my wishlist!
Oh man what a great year for photo apps!

Wish i could get in on these beta programs. I would enjoy looking for issues, testing, and such.

I am very excited about this as well as Swanko Lab. Some great photo apps are on the horizon. Love your blog and check it regularly. Keep up the great work.

I am beginning to recognise this Developer by the choice of music in the demo video. The current crop of coming attractions appear to be of the lab variety, which is a relief as one can only use that many analogue cam sims.

Looks like a great app! Excited to see more serious editing apps/tools on the horizen. I like that these apps are saving at full-res!

I am going to get this app as well as swanko lab. But they really need to stop beating around the bush and get RC up to full resolution. It is almost useless without it. That is real.

Good news for all those who asked if RetroCamera would be getting a full-res update, as I have had confirmation from the developer that full-res is on its way.

Thanks so much, Glyn! That's some awesome news! Now I'll have a smile on my face as I part with my hard-earned money for their new app.
