The iPhoneography Showcase of Doug McNamee

After a short break I am please to announce the re-introduction of 'The iPhoneography Showcase' series, and I am please to kick this new series of with the showcase of Doug McNamee.

Doug very kindly traveled to see myself and Sion at PMA last week, and after seeing some of his work I invited him to showcase his work here on the blog, and so here is Doug's bio and showcase, which I hope you will enjoy.

*** WARNING *** This showcase contains some nudity.

My name is Doug McNamee and I am full-time wedding and event photographer in Los Angeles.  I'm doing a lot of teaching this year, having launched a photo-coaching business - presenting workshops, classes, and critiques for up and coming photographers.

iPhoneography came along just in time for me. Weddings haven’t much of a creative challenge for a few years now, and aside from teaching, there wasn’t anything holding my interest. Although I’ve had an iPhone for quite a while, I didn’t know there was even such a thing as a camera app until I heard about Chase Jarvis’s Bestcam.   All the sudden a new world opened up.

The limitations of the phone have actually revealed unlimited possibilities - it’s limited capabilities make me work harder to find things that will work. And the harder I look for shots, the more interesting bits of the world just start presenting themselves. The iPhone is a great solution to creative laziness.

And for once, I'm shooting just for myself, no client to answer to. I don't care if anyone likes it. It's a bonus if they do, but the fun is in finding the shots.

A colleague expressed disproval by stating that I may find some incredible image, but all would be lost because I didn't capture it in 12 mega pixel RAW format. The fact is, I wouldn't ever find these shots if I were limited to creating only when I have my big camera.

After learning about Sion Fullana on this site, I’ve become very inspired by his work and hope to include more people in my images in the future.

I own about a dozen camera apps, but use only Tiltshift Generator on 90% of my images (no relation to my blog name). Any cropping, borders, or color toning is done with Photogene. Hipstamatic is lot of fun and I can’t wait for RetroCamera to offer full resolution.

If you would like to showcase your iPhone photos here on the iPhoneography blog, then send me an email with a link to your Flickr account and I'll reply with details on how to submit.

Beautiful work. I especially like your reflection shots and also your focus on multiples. I agree completely with you, that the spontaneity that's possible with the iPhone produces photos I could never get with my big cameras and lenses.

Ironic that I can't view his work *on an iPhone*. :)
