The iPhoneography Showcase of Mauro Ballabeni

About me: My name is Mauro Ballabeni and I divide my living and working time between Bologna and Reggio Emilia (Italy). I am a Graphic Designer, Freelance Art Director and… iPhoneographer.

My main interests have always been art and photography. My love for photography was born many years ago among the timers, trays and acids of the darkroom. For many years I printed my own negatives in both black and white and colour. For me, photography meant research, experimentation and passion. I have always been attracted to minimalist compositions and to the enhancement of colour, and now I find I am able to carry on this fascinating pursuit with the iPhone.  Using the iPhone as a camera has been a revelation to me. I always used only reflex cameras and quality lenses, but these never inspired me as much as the iPhone, which I have been using now for over a year. It’s like having a darkroom in your pocket!

With its self-evident imperfections, the iPhone impels you towards research and creativity. I really like the features it has for manipulating and altering images. I love trying out the various applications available in the App Store. To be honest I don’t think there is one ideal photographic app, but by using a combination you can achieve unique and unexpected results. At this moment I have around seventy photographic apps on my iPhone. My favourites are the ones that let you work on the images in layers to enable you to create textures and montages. All the images on my flickr photostream were produced exclusively on an iPhone from photos taken with an iPhone.

All the talented iphoneographers I met on twitter have been a further source of inspiration for research and experimentation and I’d like to thank them all by providing this link to my twitter-list: http://twitter.com/#/list/mauroballabeni/iphoneography

Funny, I can't view the images on this post from my iPhone because it is flash. Maybe consider a JavaScript slideshow viewer. No worries though, I clicked through and viewed his work on another site. Great photos.
