App Review: CaPix

Glyn Evans Following comments I made about CaPix when I announced it on Monday, I was contacted by the developer with the offer of a promo code to test the app. Unfortunately promo codes are not valid for none US iTunes account holders (I am one of those), so I went ahead and bought the app to test, and here are my final thoughts.
The app has a nice clean and simple interface, and opening and processing photos are like all these types of app, very easy. Simply select open, choose a photo from your camera roll, then highlight the areas you want to remove, tap "Apply removal" and when complete save.
Now whilst like all these types of apps, the UI etc. is nice, it is the results that let this and other apps of this kind down. As I have said on many an occasion, these apps do little more than slice and splice your photos, and in most cases leaving you with an unusable photos, that more often than not find themselves being deleted. As you will see by my sample photo, CaPix is no exception to this rule, as it has done nothing more than cut the top section of the photo away.

In addition to these disappointing results, the app only saves at 480 x 640 pixels, although there is an option to resize the photo within the app, this is still not full-res.
So what do I think of CaPix?
Having tested the app, I can honestly say "that this app offers nothing that we have not already seen before, and the results from this app, like all the other apps in this class are poor at best".
Final word
Save your money and wait to see if TouchRetouch delivers what it appears to promise.
