Glyn Evans This is a little off topic, but after a long wait and a delay, Apple has finally announced the release date and pricing for the iPad here in the UK.
From this Monday (10th May) the iPad will be available to order from Apple for the following prices, and with a delivery date of 28th May.
Wi-Fi-only iPad:
- 16GB = £429
- 32GB = £499
- 64GB = £599
Wi-Fi + 3G iPad
- 16GB = £529
- 32GB = £599
- 64GB = £699
In addition to the Apple announcement, Orange has been the first carrier to announced its data tariff pricing for the 3G iPad (see below).

So which iPad will I be ordering on Monday?
Well I'll be placing my order for a 32GB 3G model priced at £599, which if I opt for Orange's pay-per-day, 250MB, 3G data plan, priced at £2 per day, then I will have the best of both worlds. I will use WiFi 99% of the time, but have the flexibility of switch to 3G on the rare occasions I'll need it, and without the need to tie myself in to a costly monthly plan.

: ) I ordered a 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G iPad trying to maximize its usefulness for when I travel and have little Wi-Fi access, and for storing images. Will likely get the second generation, and so forth! It just does what I need it to do, and I don't have to carry a laptop.
Have fun! : )

I was sort of excited about the iPad. Although I had a chance to play with it and I really did not like it. The main reason I wanted it is to use it as a replacement portfolio. The thing is though my work does not look any better on that then in person or on my iPhone. So I figured it is not worth the extra money.
I just don't have a use for it. I have my iPhone I have a 17 macbook pro, and I have a PC tower. I think I just don't have enough of a use for one to ever make it worth getting an iPad. Basically 20 mins in the store with it cured me of any urge to buy one.
Also I tend to have an policy not to buy anything apple till at least the 2nd generation.
