Jeff Carlson over at TidBITS is reporting that the recently announced iMovie for iPhone will only be compatible with the new iPhone 4, and not compatible with the iPhone 3GS regardless of whether it is running iOS 4 or not.
Quoting sources inside Apple, Jeff reports that iMovie for iPhone requires the power of the iPhone 4's A4 processor, and that whilst projects created on the iPhone can be exported via iTunes, they can not be edited with iMovie on the Mac.
In addition iMovie for iPhone will not run on the iPad in compatibility mode, although Carlson does suspect Apple will eventually release an iPad version of iMovie.
Whilst this may disappoint many iPhone 3GS and iPad owners, this is good news for app developer Nexvio, who produces the excellant app, ReelDirector [AppStore Link], that will run on either the iPhone 3GS or iPad running OS 3.0 or greater.

ReelDirector by Nexvio is a must have high quality video editing app
Thanks for letting us know about this... Was the first thing I wanted to know as soon as I saw the anouncement.
Ugh! The keynote was so mis-leading. I do have Reel Director, and if you dont have it, you should get it. It's intuitive and creates a great slideshow.
