iOS 4 compatible, but not iPhone 4 ready

By the end of Thursday many of you will have a nice new shinny iPhone 4 in your hands, and whilst this new iPhone will sport what will undoubtedly be a great 5 megapixel camera, be prepared to be disappointed. Not because of anything to do with this new marvel from Apple, but because of the lack of photo apps that will support its new 5 megapixel camera.
Now whilst we have seen a flurry of photo apps all being updated to support iOS 4, none as far as I am aware support the new camera, so whilst many apps are iOS 4 compatible, none of them are iPhone 4 ready.
Unfortunately I will not be getting my hands on an iPhone 4 until the second week in July, so for those who do get one, please be sure to come back and discuss your thoughts here, letting the rest of us know exactly what you think of it, and what we are missing.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. The "what's new" for Photo fx for instance says the 2k resolution restriction has been removed, allowing for larger (presumably 5Mp) images.
We built ClearCam to be iPhone 4 ready. On the new hardware it will be producing 11.25MP images which you can show off to your Android friends on your retinal display. The 6.75MP images are looking nice on the 3GS and algorithms have been tested with a variety of resolutions. Obviously we couldn't do any testing on the iPhone 4 hardware yet. UPS says mine should arrive tomorrow, which is weird, but will try it out as soon as I can activate it and make sure all is okay.
Look forward to any feedback!

@Paul. You are correct, it looks like Photo fx will support full-res on the new iPhone 4, but most of the photo apps in the AppStore will not support the full-res images taken by the iPhone 4, that was the point I was trying to make, but perhaps not very well :)
Hi, Glyn
Here is a current status of my apps. I think it works on new iPhone, except if new iPhone4's user interface is dramatically changed without notice.
Even there is problem on the apps, it will be fixed in two weeks, I think.
ToyCamera, OldCamera, SepiaCamera
Current version is iPhone4 ready.
Next update supports higher resolutions, retina icon and launch screen.
TiltShift Generator
Current version is iPhone4 ready.
Next update supports retina display, retina icon and launch screen.
QuadCamera
I think it works, but not perfect,
Next update supports bigger image capture (if it works on actual device), retina icon and launch screen.
@Takayuki Fukatsu
I love your TiltShift Generator.
Thanks for your information to increase resolution also in QuadCamera lately. That is a must since last summer. After i lost hope i bought another app with full resolution 3 month ago. I will give it a try and increase my rating in app store back to 5 stars (actually only 2).
Hopefully also for 3GS.
Can you confirm please?
Any plans for new apps?
Thanks
Very interesting discussion. I'm especially interested in this issue -- i.e., the idea of photo apps operating with the iPhone 4 and iOS 4, yet not necessarily really upgraded to take advantage of the new 5 megapixel camera.
@Takayuki Fukatsu -- You mention that Toy Camera, etc., will get hi-res capabilities in newer versions, but what about TiltShift (my favorite photo app). Will that be capable of maintaining the resolution of iPhone 4 images?
Thanks!
@Allan
I am quite sure that you can enjoy TS Generator on iPhone 4 from the beginning.
Just uploaded an 8 MPix Photo from my Canon with Picture Transfer and processed it with TSG. I runs faster than expected without problems and saves in 8 MPix (setting is "orginal format"). I have 3GS with iOS4.
this will be an interesting topic.
Camerabag also saves in 8 MPix.
CrossProces processed on screen but saved NO Picture.
Picture Show 2.0 saves in 3 MPix.
Perfectly Clear crashed during saving the picture.
@Tomba
As a first step, large image for QuadCam will be iPhone4 only (even I need test with device, because it is technically works on simulator but I don't know it is practical or not).
The reason of limited capability is that for fast shooting, QuadCam uses screen capture and it means that every frame need to be smaller than screen size. iPhone4 bigger screen enables it to take bigger image.
If I change QuadCam's minimum requirement to iOS4.0, it may be possible with iPhone 3GS.
@Allan
I think it must be ok. TSG has no-resize export option and you can use 5m picture without shrink.
@Tomba and @Takayuki -- Thanks so much for the info. Really looking forward to getting the iPhone 4 and testing things out.
Regarding Quad Cam... is there any future functionality going to be made to manually choose a picture to put into a quad image? and maybe some more quad templates?
@Olyvaar, try the newly-released Diptic. It does what you describe.
@Olyvaar
In this moment, the first priority of QuadCam is perfect iPhone4 and iOS4 support ( good news is that current QuadCam works iPhone4 properly).
After I would like to try, long requested Manual shot feature.
I'm sorry but Applying composition to photo-roll images is not big priority in this moment.
If you want that function now, as JulieC described, Diptic may help your demand.
I got my iPhone 4 today and have been using it wince about 3pm PST and so far my pics are looking grainy and my 3G pics look better but I am optimistic that will soon be fixed! Hipstamatic B&W films are making crazy but cool looking glowing blue shades but it was doing that on my 3G os4 update too
@Amy that is a bug / glitch in Hipstamatic & Swankolabs compatibility with iOS4
I'd been worrying about this as well before getting my iPhone 4 yesterday. I was assuming photo apps would run into the same limitations as on the iPhone 3GS last year, not taking advantage of the new higher resolution.
The apps I use most to process iPhone photographs are Photo fx, Camerakit, EffectsLab and PureCarbon, all of which saved at 1536x2048 on the iPhone 3GS. I've tested these four on the iPhone 4, and to my surprise they all save pics at the new, higher resolution, despite the fact that only Photo fx appears to have specifically been updated for iOS 4.
I suspect this may have something to do with the fact that making iPhone apps capable of saving in higher resolutions has been addressed, by most developers who offered it for the iPhone 3GS, by removing any resolution cap, or at least setting sufficienty high that it isn't yet hit at 5MP.
Since multitasking, which what most developers are rushing to offer to make their apps compatible with iOS 4, isn't really an issue for photo processing, it looks like those using the new phone will be able to benefît from its improved resolution even when using their existing apps after all.
