Shootout: iPhone 4 v Canon PowerShot S90
Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:00AM |
Glyn Evans iLounge have just posted some comparison photos taken with the new iPhone 4 and a Canon PowerShot S90.
Bellow are 2 of the comparison shots taken by the guys over at iLounge, but to see the rest, and to find out which one was shot on the iPhone, and which one on the Canon S90, then head over to their Flickr stream.

Anybody can spot the better image, especially at full res. The saturation is the biggest issue imho but also the definition of the flowerleaves is a lot better on the S90!
That's not to say the the iPhone images are bad (although... ;-) ), many times it more important to just take a picture that is decent than it is to have a quality picture.
I love all my camera's, D300, Canon Powershot and iPhone 3GS, they capture life at it's best!
I have an S90 and it beats the snot out of the iPhone's camera. It's all about the optics - and Aperture Priority mode.
I personally like the iphone ones better based on the comp shots on that flickr page
I think the powershot ones look better and are generally better. It is not about that though in the end with photography. What the iphone has over the power shot is the entire editing studio right there in the phone. Making it way more likely that I would be carrying the phone around to shoot everyday pictures rather then taking the time to take and edit the photos post after I get home with the poweshot
I find myself thinking that the iPhone 4 camera is almost too good. (And I see Jarle has already made a similar comment in reply to another post). Rather than thinking of it as a toy camera, like my Holga, and having fun with that, it's good enough that I'm making comparisons with the quality of images that can be produced by "real" cameras and, as this demonstrates, it inevitably falls far short of that. But that doesn't change the fact that the real fun lies with all the great photo processing and sharing apps available.
