I wonder how much this bad boy will cost sans the contract. I'm not up for another year and REALLY don't want to switch to AT&T's new tiered data plan. Would love to continue using unlimited data and would probably be willing to drop $900 on the phone to keep it.

Can't wait to start using the new iPhone 4. That camera looks very promising.

Leon, as I understand it AT&T will sell the iPhone for non-contract buyers at $399 and $499. But know that if you currently have the unlimited data plan that they are allowing you to grandfather in your current unlimited data plan with the new iPhone 4. Hope that helps.

Slight correction Dirk, it's $399 and $499 (16gb and 32gb) for early upgraders which are people with too much left on their current contract for full upgrade pricing (usually like 6 months to 1 years to go)

If you want to buy the new iPhone outright (no 2 yr contract) like I believe Leon wants to do, then its $599 and $699. Still under the $900 you said you're willing to go, Leon.

Oh, I forgot to add Leon, Dirk is right, no matter what you end up paying for the phone, as long as you don't let you service lapse, then you will get to keep the unlimited plan for $30. I'm pretty sure that you'd have sign a new 2 yr contract. I know for the iPad 3G owners, they have to be signed up continuously or lose the unlimited deal, which is like being on contract. I'm not 100% sure about iPhone users, though I doubt there would be any difference. If that's the case, then you might as well take advantage of the upgrade price if you're eligible ($199/299). It would be a huge savings.

Ok, just my $.02. Good luck with your decision!
