LOMORA: No more points

Finally after all the uproar, developer Marvin Lee has scrapped the points system he introduced in to LOMORA v1.5, with todays release of LOMORA v1.6, Marvin says "all films, filters and flash are absolutely free now", there are "no more points system" and "no more In-App Purchase".

Even the app description has been updated, and now says:

"LOMORA brings LOMO to the digital world. Cross-processing is a method to develop color print or slide film with the wrong chemicals which creates LOMO effect. Somehow, the wildly shifted color and contrast make those photos look astonishing.

In fact, to replicate the effect of cross-processing on digital images really do need some efforts. I've been working really hard to make it looks authentic. Besides that, I also put some important accessories in this app, some accessories that just can't be avoided when using LOMO camera, that's Colorsplash flash and colored filter.

Unfortunately, cross-processed images don't just have one effect. The color altered in the image also depends on what film is using. Different film creates different effect. But to make things more simple, I just named the films according to it's color. For example, "B/b Film" means blue colored film, "M/P Film" means magenta and purple colored film."

I have to say, I will never buy an app from the guy that developed this app. I don't care how good it is or what other people say about it. I don't mean to be a jerk but anyone that would develop a pricing model like he attempted to do just doesn't have any connection to the app or iphone photography community. I appreciate you calling this out and bringing it to our attention. Marvin Lee just sounds like a deadbeat to me. The sleaziest car-salesman of the iPhone app world. He might be a really nice guy but he totally blew it with trying to get this over on people. Good luck with future apps. I for one won't be buying them.

So now that the points system is scrapped, and finally everything is free - the question is. Is the app worth it? Are the effects good enough to warrant the £1.79 price tag?

@The House of Husar, I completely agree.

@Jem. Based on previous feedback from SCW, I would say "don't waste your money". I have only been highlighting this app and its developer to ensure readers of this blog did not buy the app to later feel like they had been conned out of their money. I personally will not be supporting this developer by buying his app, however if he make it available for FREE, then yes I would give it a go, but not now or ever for the asking price of £1.79/$2.99.

According to a commenter in the last post about LOMORA, this app only outputs to a maximum of 768x768. If this is true, then the app is worthless.

You could buy Photo fx for the same price which has included cross processing since v1, as well as over 60 other filters. Personally, I think the "cross process effect" is overused, but it's in there if you want it, along with Bleach Bypass and other lab processes.

I downloaded this app for my iPhone last night and I'm quite sorry I did. The UI is horrible. You can't turn the flash off (I don't always need the iPhone's flash washing out my photos). The app is incredibly unintuitive and awkward to use, and the supporting documentation is crap. I wish I could get back the three bucks I spent on this.

I wouldn't download this app (let alone pay for it) on mere principal alone. Besides, it doesn't look like it does anything that countless other apps already do... he just had it wrapped up in a cash grab, that he has since rescinded due to harsh feedback.

Don't waste your money.

I actually went now and bought this app, couldn't resist! ;)
I'm glad I did because now I can WARN YOU ALL TO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF SH*T! What was the developer thinking? The app is a bug fest! Few thinks work as they should and the UI is a disaster, ugly and full of bugs! The film effects are nothing you can't get from other toycam apps and there is zero control over what you get! DON'T BUY THIS!
