FILM LAB which I reviewed here has just had a major update. The update includes bug fixes and full-res support on the iPhone 4, and now has a total of 351 films/filter effects.
The app now contains some new film brands like Calotype, FORTE, GAF and Rollei, which sit alongside the existing films from Kodak, Agfa, Ilford etc., but the best bit is, they are now grouped, making it much easier to find your preferred film type or filter effect by either film brand or effect style.
The last update to this app was pretty impressive, making it a must have app, but now these updates have made it a MUST have app, so if you don't already own FILM LAB, then what are you waiting for, go grab a copy now!!

This is certainly one app that can command a higher price tag. And this update has made a significant difference to the ease of use.
Film Lab is really worth every Cent (or Penny)! A great app everyone should give a try.
Good lord, and I thought the 70-odd filters it had before was a lot. There's more filters in this little app than you could poke a truckload of sticks at, and they're all good.
The organisation of them is good too (and necessary with the number now available) - they're all tagged as well as being sorted by category and film. You can also 'favourite' the ones you really like, which is very handy too.
One major annoyance: every time I load a photo from the camera roll, I have to scroll from the top (i.e oldest photos). I have more than 3000 photos, making the process very awkward (I usually want to process one of the most recent photos).
@Jarle Aasland: My workaround for that issue is to choose the "Album" option when selection where to load an image from. Then, if you select Camera Roll from the Photo Albums available, it will put you at the end of the album instead of at the beginning.
Is there a Kodachrome filter?
@Jennyland Thanks - great tip!
@DT yes there is kosachrome plus 350 other film stocks. The only thing missing is film grain.
Matt - thanks for the answer! How accurate do you find it?
@Matt: PhotoFX (from Tiffin) has an extensive selection of grains available! I know Marty & I both use Film Lab & PhotoFX together often! The two apps complement each other well (especially since both have had MAJOR updates recently)!
Jenny I do plan on adding the tiffen app soon for that reason :)
Love how they have made the UI easy to find specifically what you're looking for. I have already faved quite a few combos! Great update!
Awesome app just got better.. so simple to use..one day all apps will be made (and priced) this way :)
I downloaded this. I'm glad I did!
Just bought the app! It's incredible... I almost never, ever buy apps, but this one is well worth the 99 cents by a long shot. AlienSkin Exposure costs 250x the amount but this app produces very comparable results with a really impressive array of film stocks (particularly liked that they had Kodachrome and Fuji Velvia!).
but i found out there are several film/filters that are identical at least to the human eye. i would switch them back and forth and see absolutely zero changes. and obviously there are dozens of filters that look only slightly different which is acceptable. But personally, I would prefer close to around 100 filters, which is plenty given that we can still change brightness/contrast/color with other settings. otherwise it's just too many filters to flip through and takes up more time than needed.
@Arthur
Thats why they added the Favourites.
I am very happy that i could find ALL my films out of the >300 i loved to use in analog days. In the first version of the app (75 films) i missed a few like Kodachrome, Fuji Velvia...
I think everyone wants to find and use HIS films in the app.
You can use your favourites very easy with the new version. I ended up with 7 films and 3 other effects. Now its very fast to choose out of 10.
And yes, all films of brand look similiar. Afga, Kodak, Fuji, all have a "brand color" plus film families where the specs are even closer. The reason was that photos you took with different ISO/ASA could be mixed with each other.
Just check for example Afga RSX II 50, 100 and 200. The saturation differs a little to higher ISO. The contrast varies. But the pics fit together. Of course in digital days you only have to choose one of these 3 as a favourite.
Personally i never use the manual correction in film lab. I try to shoot with the exposure i like, postprocess with a film in film lab, and optionally correct or improve the pic later on in Perfectly Clear.
I was completely blown away by this update. It has been very thought out. I used Film Lab before but it is quickly becoming an app I use daily. Great job.
