Rejected: Camera+ VolumeSnap

I know many of you said this newly submitted feature update to Camera+ called VolumeSnap would not get approved by Apple, but based on the app REAL-CAMERA I was optimistic that this nice addition to Camera+ would get approved.
Sadly I was wrong, and Apple have rejected this latest update to what has to be one of the best camera replacement apps.
Thanks to all those who contacted me about this, and to read more about the rejection check out the tap tap tap blog here.

Several people have tweeted news of a potential work around to enable this VolumeSnap feature, however it failed to work on my iPhone 3G running the latest version of iOS 3 and version 1.2 of Camera+, nor did it work on my iPhone 4 running the latest version of iOS 4 and version 1.2.1 of Camera+.
The suggested tweak to enable VolumeSnap is to open Mobile Safari and type camplus://enablevolumesnap or to disable type camplus://disenablevolumesnap
Note: You run this tweak at your own risk.

I may have misunderstood the work around. Running the command in Mobile Safari does not add the feature to the menu, but pressing the + volume button on my iPhone 4 triggers the camera shutter.
As noted before, this work around does not work on the iPhone 3G running iOS 3.x and either Camera+ 1.2 or 1.2.1.

Had a feeling about this. Apple kind of funny about anything using the hardware of it's devices like the volume key to work with a third party program. Maybe they might get lucky down the road. Don't give up camera+ you're a great program.
Lame that they rejected it, but the hack works great for me.
FYI, the hack doesn't seem to work if you have image stabilization enabled, turn off the stabilizer button and then snap away with your volume buttons.
Works great.
Another workaround is jailbreak + SnapTap
The tweak works great for me on my iPhone 3GS running a iOS 4.0.1 and remains working next time you lauch the app normally/reboot!
Thank you very much!
I'm just a little baffled how Apple chooses which developer gets to use a feature and which doesn't, as Camera+ is easily one of best photo apps currently and could be a showcase for Apple hardware. I believe Camera Zoom 2(Dead, is this an example of the cracking down on deviant developers), Real-Camera and All-In-One Camera Bag all have this feature so what makes them so special?
Another example being why MiTube was kicked from the appstore when there have been two previous apps (iWoopie / My Video Cache) allowed that did the exact same thing saving youtube videos, both of which where eventually removed from the appstore but only I belive for not being updated a long time after new youtube download protocols came into use!
I don't get how they'll allow the led light to be "modified" to be able to stay on for flashlight use but then this gets rejected due to "not the intended use of hardware" =/
Wow, the workaround works great (iphone4). I Just hope apple doesn't make them take that out of future releases.
I feel like I jiggle the camera a little when pressing the button, but so far haven't noticed it in the pictures. Here's the best part though, the volume button on the headphones work too. Its like using a good old fashioned push button shutter release. its fast too, snap snap snap!
@Therightamt The Flashlight thing is allowed as long as the app discloses how fast the battery can drain if you keep the light on. That's straight from Apple.
FYI, when you go back to using your headphones as headphones volume will be on 11!
Ask me how I know, ouch.
Fiendish workaround ;)
but doesn't this run the risk of Apple kicking it out of the store altogether?
@Darren, let's hope not.
Can't seem to disable it now using: camplus://disenablevolumesnap
anyone able to do this? Do any harm if it stays?
Yet another unfounded Apple app rejection! I'm wondering if they just sometimes roll dice to decide whether an app gets approved or not.
I also could not disable it with the camplus://disenablevolumesnap or with a hard reboot. Had to remove the app and reinstall it. That worked.
First of all, thank you for the wonderful tip - it works like a charm (OS4.1 iPhone 3GS). As to disabling volumesnap, no need to reinstall the app. Probably there has been a mistake in a tweak given. "disenable" does not mean anything. Instead you should go with camplus://disablevolumesnap. Worked for me. :-)
Works fine on my 3G running iOS4
What a great little hack! Worked for me to on a 3GS on IOS 4.1.
Im using version 1.1 on 3gs 4.0.1 and it works also. doesnt add any options but im now taking pictures with my volume buttons :-)
Great little work around. This makes a good app even better. And for a non jailbreaker like myself it feels good to put one past Apple. Even if it is only a small thing:-)
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
workaround works on 3g running iOS4.0.1
