Camera+ banned for VolumeSnap hack

Following the leaked hack that enabled the "VolumeSnap" featured to be turned on in the current version of Camera+, Apple today removed the app from the AppStore for breaking its strict rules (well strict if you get caught out).

This comes as no great surprise, but I am sure it will only be for a short time, as the developer will probably just need to remove code that enabled this hack to work, and then resubmit the app for approval to the AppStore. Of course this will mean that the VolumeSnap feature will be banished until Apple officially allows developers to use the iPhones hardware buttons to trigger things like the camera shutter.

Of course if you want to retain this nice little hack, then just don't update the app when it reappears in the AppStore, or at least until you really have to.

With the greatest of respect, then why the F%%K is Real-Camera STILL in the app store??? Someone explain. Thats BS. It makes no sense, at all. Seriously, how can Apple justify one and not the other?

I think Camera+ hidden feature is one of the smartest ideas ever developed in a photo app, especially for me that I use my iPhone camera at a higher level. To use the earphones as a remote shutter is awesome!
I can understand Apple point of view, but c’mon: be open-minded sometimes.
I hope that Camera+ will be available again soon on AppStore ’cause it deserves to be there… maybe someone will add the hidden feature in Cydia as a hack so everything will be fine for both parts ;)

I'm wondering the same thing (why is it still there, I'm sure they know by now.) I wouldn't doubt that the developer of Real-Camera pulled a bait n switch on Apple to get their app into the store to begin with. So, if Apple is serious about it's stand on the issue, not only would they pull Real-Camera but they should also debit the developer the amount of money he's made from the 'illegal' feature.

is anyone going to divulge how to use the current volume snap hack??

I have version 1.2.1 and would really like to know how to use the volume buttons to take the picture and not get the pretzel finger.

Cheers

Go to safari

In the address bar, paste:

camplus://enablevolumesnap

Safari should quit and camera+ will open and voilà. Enabled.

What i did was put " camplus://enablevolumesnap " in a note and just use that as a hot link.

sweeeeeeet! so much easier, I love apple, but steve jobs is turning into Hitler with his vision of how the perfect world will be

Haha, seems that taptaptap has infuriated the mighty god Apple! Well this sucks, only because of the Volume button trigger Cam+ has become my go-to camera app! The photo effects are shit but other than that it's a neat app!

Why can Real-Camera still have this feature and others not? Because Apple sucks that why! When will you guys finally realize this fact?!

Apple's claim that using the volume buttons for other functions may cause user confusion, but where's the "think different" paradigm in that?

I say 1.) the huge success ($500K in 3 mos) is a positive indication and 2.) Apple should wait for actual customer complaints of "user confusion" before banning such a good app.

@loungy
I am curious to why you think the photo effects are shit on Camera+?
I have just started using this as my main camera app now (as opposed to Camera Genius) and I found that I quite like MOST of the effects. Not all though, admittedly :)

Dan, most of the effects are overdone and are putting too much contrast on a photo so you end up with photos which have a lot of very dark and very bright areas where much of the detail is lost or you end up with skintones that look deep red (Vibrant, Sunkiss'd, Lo-fi etc.). Some other effects looks just cheap (HDR). I find that the Camera+ effects lack character like some of the other camera apps have them (PictureShow, Hipstamatic, Plastic Bullet etc.) so the effects feel like a cheap add-on to me.

It's this attitude by Apple that led me to jailbreak my iPhone 3G. I noted that the release of iOS4 would support bluetooth keyboard usage but only with 3GS and above models.

So I jailbroke my phone and bought BT Stack from Cydia. I can now use my old portable Dell bluetooth keyboard, no problem.
