Photogene, the must have photo editor for the iPhone has just had a major update that will please many, yet upset a lot, and why?
Well today, Photogene became an iOS 4 ONLY app, leaving all non iOS 4 users out in the cold with no future updates!!
So what is new in Photogene version 2.6?
- Support for fast-app switching.
- Long tasks such as saving and uploading photos can be performed in the background, so you can do something else while this happens.
- Support for iPhone 4 retina display.
- Support for iPhone 4 5 MP camera and also for using the front-facing camera.
- Can share photos while preserving geo-tag information (EXIF).
- New share options: Flickr and FTP. Also, can choose destination album in Facebook. Now using latest security protocol for Twitter.
- Support for adding IPTC metadata for shared photos.
- Can now resize photos to custom resolution.
WARNING: If you are not running iOS 4 on your iPhone, then ensure you have a backup copy of the app, and do not update this app via iTunes on your PC or Mac.

Yay!
Opps, in my excitement, forgot to mention.. working lovely on the IP4. Uploaded a full Res shot quickly to Flickr with no issues
I can see that my application purchasing is going to be falling now because I will not be updating my 3G to iOS4. I reckon a lot of people with older phones will be affected by this as well.
@da5id. It is rumoured that the next release of iOS 4 will resolve the iPhone 3G performance issues, so you should be good again very soon.
If you look at the new update of Iris Photo Suite, you can see how poor this update of Photogene is relating to new features and support of older and latest iOS versions.
