New Video App: iSupr8

Instant Vintage Video™ Designed by vintage film enthusiasts

App Store Description: Discover the beauty of authentic vintage 8mm film. iSupr8 is a video recorder which grades each pixel based on exposure adding old school effects and film-burn. The resulting film becomes a unique and retro masterpiece.

Keeping the 8mm movement alive is what we’re about. iSupr8 is not just a fun novelty app, it is an effort to revive and increase awareness of a commercially dying format to a new generation, as well as a production tool for filmmakers seeking an authentic, vintage look.

While developing iSupr8, a majority of the time and energy was spent making sure that the color grade was as authentic as possible. No filters or cheap overlays in the coloring process. iSupr8 is the only vintage film app that shoots in 720p HD.

FEATURES:

  • Tru8™ Processing
  • Simple User Interface
  • Export to Camera Roll
  • Record 360p/480p/720p*
  • LED enabled for iPhone 4

Create new memories with an old school kick for family and friends. An in-app viewer provides a simple overview of your videos, while a sharing function includes email and Facebook. Choose which films to develop and export, removing unwanted rendering and reducing storage.

Works on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th Gen iPod Touch, and requires iOS 4.1 or higher.

*Some features may not be available on certain devices. See www.iSupr8.com for more information.

Editors comments: Hold on to your seats, because here comes another retro video camera app!!

I've had a quick play with this app, and it's OK.  The UI is a bit on the clunky side, the viewer is a bit too small for me, but on a plus side, it does produce some nice looking retro videos.

I like the quality of this one. My footage looks really good.
Like the rest of these apps, the usability suffers greatly from the designbuttons etc.
If I could import my other footage from the camera roll, there is a chance I get hooked on this one 8-)

yes ... import footage pls

Non-intuitive UI
More annoying: So far every time I've tried to process the footage (on both high and medium resolution) - it "develops" the footage and then crashes.

(The repeated crashing stopped by completely powering off the iPod (holding in the on/off button and confirming) and turning it back on)

The UI is awful and the processing (and printing, whatever this is) takes quite a long time. But the results are fine. The scratches and lught leaks are nicely randomized. It would be nice if there'll be a option to choose different film types in an update.

I'm still positive to this app - the "showreel" on youtube is really cool, but I recorded a clip around one minute in lenght in the high quality - and I've tried to develop it several times now and it just freezes (fills up half the "D" with progress and then nothing more happens). When I restart it, it sometimes just hangs on the opening screen.
Have the newest version iOS on a newest-generation iPod Touch - and have not experienced anything like this on other apps.

It strikes me that none of this new wave of 8mm video apps are that unique. It has been possible to do similar videos with Vintage Maker and Cinema FXV for some time now both from either existing video or from the inbuilt camera. Having said that I do like using the 8mm app because it works real time and produces great results. I know it doesn't produce HD video but then standard 8mm and super 8mm were not high def anyway.

Feel like a klutz here, but the "developing" and "printing" of this app does not continue in the background if you black out the screen so you can put the iPod in your pocket. It needs to have the screen on and lie undisturbed - then it seems to work better. Means you should wait with processing until you're home again if you film while you're out and about.

My thoughts on the string of 8mm video apps lately is I see them more of post edit tools for transitions, intro fx, ect. - if you're thinking in the same sphere as myself - shooting, editing all done on the device). So the addition of HD output Im more happy to see as it allows me to line up my clips and render at a unified 720p.

Really liking the results from this. The colours are great. I'm having the crashing problems though. Seems to be only with longer movies.

Was this on sale for an hour? I would have bit on this without hesitation for a buck.

iSupr8 1.2 has been released. Now you can import video and adjust the scratch level. We have also added a full screen view finder option, the view finder alignment has been tweaked and share options have been expanded. Thanks for your continued support.

I have a problem with my imported vids... I keeps crashing after I develop the footage. I tried to convert them to wmv or mov but it still happens... any help would be much appreciated.

btw its already compressed to mov whenever I import it from photos, its all 1080 at 24fps taken by D90.
