  • 13 light leak & bokeh effects
  • 5 vignette effects
  • 4 noise effects
  • 7 frame effects
  • Shuffle effects

  • Various photo size

Editors comments: iDarkroom is another one of those pre-defined filter effect apps, that has similarities to the very popular PictureShow.

The App

When you launch the app you will see 5 icons across the top of the screen which going from left to right they are: camera icon to take photos with the app; picture icon to load photos from the camera roll; gear icon to set preferences like full resolution output; people icon to save or share your photos; and finally the randomizer dice icon.

Loading or taking a photo reveals the apps editing features, which include the 20 pre-defined colour filter effects like CrossProcess. Then you have a series of 11 paper/canvas effects, 13 very good light leak effects, the customary vignette effects, along with some interesting, albeit limited noise effects, and finally a small number of usable frames.

What do I think of iDarkroom?

The app is very easy to use, the interface is clean and simple, and the app produces some really nice results, however it needs more effects, noise and light leaks to compete against PictureShow, which this app clearly does, however as an initial release, this app is pretty good, if you like pre-defined filter apps that is.

Nice. I'm a big fan of Picture Show - I'll ad this to my wish list and keep an eye out for price drops and feature updates.

The lightleaks as standalone effects is a very original idea.

I downloaded this a few days ago. Like someone else said, the light leaks effect is impressive. The filters are okay--nothing I haven't seen before, but then again this is probably my 200th photo app, if not my 215th. I wasn't very impressed with the bokeh effect either. Some options for bokeh customization would have been nice. It's an okay app. Certainly worth a dollar.

Could you please recommend any really good apps that would convert pics in nice B&W photos. And in the same note - what kind if images on iPhone turn out in B&W?
Thanks!

@Anastasia. I like Monochromia for B&W conversion. Monophix is another great app for B&W but I dont have it so cant say much about it. I'm sure others will chime in.

@Anastasia, Monochromia, Monophix, PureCarbon, Monotone, (Vint BW for shooting in BW), the list goes on. : )

Thanks,

N

Looks like there will be lots of new apps, offering various filters and effects this year.

MonoPhix seems to be the best choice for converting existing images to B&W. VintBW (free I think) is still the best B&W camera
