Step back in to the future with Steampunk PhotoTada!

*** FREE for a very limited time ***

From
the developers of Steampunk PhotoTada!: "Welcome science fiction thrill-seekers and fantasy fiends! It has come to our attention that the steam-powered future timeline, that you have fought so hard to innovate, has changed, and we need YOU to archive an alternate history using our new Steampunk PhotoTada camera!

In this future of anachronistic technology, the Victorian-envisioned quest for a steam-powered society is no longer the goal. We do not know when this happened! What we do know is that we need YOU to detail how this future has come about. We believe other time travellers have been playing around with phase shift technology; but, alas, that is for you to unearth through your own speculative pixel fiction by using the filters of our iPhone camera app.

So that you feel more at home in your sub-genre, we encourage you to change the looks of your photos to the once innovative future called Steampunk. After you take a photograph, you can then infiltrate Steampunk into other foreign technologies such as what is called "Facebook" or the "digital photo album." You can even send your photos over what we have heard referred to as "electronic mail" or "email", whatever that may be. Good luck on your undertaking…"

Features of this iPhone camera application include:

  • 9 color settings including sepia, black and white and X-ray
  • 11 filters
  • 8 borders and frames
  • Save to Facebook.
  • Save to Camera Roll.
  • Send photos over email.
  • Import images from your Camera Roll.
  • Take photos with any iOS device with a camera.

Editors Comments: This app can produce some nice looking full-res grungy effects, but due to the user interface being cluttered with small controls, it is better suited to the larger screen of the iPad 2. That said, for FREE, it's worth the download for your iPhone.

Are you sure about the full-res results? I just saved a pic to my camera roll and it's 1452x1944 (less than 3MP).

Hi there.
I am in Japan and I wonder why sometimes, free applications for a limited period are not free... I have to pay a few yens... how come?...

@espekayen, annoyingly full-res has to be enabled. To do this, tap the i icon found in the bottom right of the screen.

This app is terrible. Whenever I choose an image that has already been touched by another app it crashes. When it opens, it opens in left facing landscape and then switches to right facing landscape. Weird. You then have to find the full res button to set full res.

Steamjunk.

The app is a crasher, try pulling a Hipsta image into it, freezes. Then sliders may or may not move but won't changes in preview. If I can get an image saved it's a problem. The picture only shows about 20% on the canvas. Thankfully free, didn't lose anything to try it out.

App made to look pretty, most of what you see on the screen are controls, not your image.

As a previous poster said... steamjunk. clumsy operation and it crashes if any other app breathed on your photos.

Hasn't crashed on me but if I import an image that I've previously cropped an odd aspect ratio, the effects are generated at a different size than the original image, resulting in a ghosting zoom appearance.

Thanks, Glyn. I've not experienced any issues with crashing (yet) so it works well in that respect. However, the UI is terrible. I'm using an iPhone and the controls are just too small. The app is poorly designed and needs a major update to make it easier to use.

I think the problem is when you import photos in square format, locks up, the format has no problems, nice application, but does not add anything new.

You're right @Driver, square format is definitely the culprit here, although I have had the "ghosting" issue as well. I thought I'd posted the square issue here already however it must've been on Twitter with Glyn.
