More Retro fun, with Instant110

From the developer of the excellent Cameramatic and Monochromia, comes Instant110, another square format retro toy camera app. With the option of selecting one of 8 lenses, 5 films and 3 developers, this app will be compared with apps like Hipstamatic, however unlike Hipstamatic, Instant110 lets you import existing photos from the camera roll. By varying these lens/film/developer combinations, Instant110 lets you "take strange and beautiful pictures".

Instant110 features:

  • Intuitive navigation.
  • Lens, film and developer are changeable after you take a picture.
  • Import images from camera roll.
  • Save images in high resolution to camera roll.
  • Share images on Twitter (iOS 5 required), Facebook and Email.
  • Send images to Instagram and other apps directly.
  • "Shuffle Shooting" randomize lens, film and developer combination when you take a picture.
  • EXIF support

How is it different from Cameramatic?

THE FILTERS, BORDERS AND PROCESSING ARE DIFFERENT. MORE LIKE A POLAROID THEN THE CAMERAMATIC FILTERS. REMINDS ME OF A MIX OF SHAKEITPHOTO, HIPSTAMATIC AND SWANKOLAB. I HAVE CAMERAMATIC AND I CAN SAY IT IS DIFFERENT.

I'm a little tired of photo apps forcing the square format on me. If it's just another filter app and I can swap the filters around after the shot, why shouldn't I expect it to use every pixel on the sensor to capture the shot and allow me to adjust the crop later too?

I agree with Greg Mills. Why is there no option to use portrait or landscape photos? I know they are supposed to be retro, but we should be given the choice at least.

I wish developers like this one would put their time and energy into making fewer apps that are amazing rather than more apps that are ok. Cameramatic is a perfect example. It could be an awesome app if they'd just put some work into the UI. Picking films and lenses from a list is annoying. I'd rather put them in the order I want with my favorites first, and then swipe. Cameramatic would be my go-to app for effects if the camera rear worked like Hipstamatic, where I'd swipe across to switch lenses, but also add a film window on the left and let me swipe up and down to switch those.

At this point, with so many apps that do more or less the same things, adding more features isn't the answer. Neither is creating multiple apps that do the same thing.

Rob's comment is spot on!

What rob said! Also UI sounds are important in my opinion. Some apps feel great because of well done, well used UI sounds, Hipstamatic is one of them.

Hi,

Does anyone know of an app which has filters as good as Hipstamatic?
I really like the quality of the Hipstamatic filters but I never use it as I prefer to shoot using Camera+ and add the filter afterwards.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers.

PictureShow app hands down!
Also try Infinicam too.

@Mr Tmney

That's great, many thanks, I'm installing both right now :-)

@ Dave

Cheers, Enjoy the Randomizer functions of both apps, & the ability to save them as your own custom pre-set filter effects.

@Dave @Mr Tmney The problem with PictureShow (and in part Infinicam) is that they lack character, coompared to the Hipstamatic. The is like a Hipstamatic with a very own character, and it shows in it's photos.PictureShow and Infinicam with their endless randomization has no real character to speak of. I find that especially PictureShow is a wish-wash of everything thrown together. There are no rules that guide the character of the camera.

@ loungy to each their own opinion, but I think you have lost yourself in the artsy aspect of apps & your critique. This is about that can give you unique quality results & be able to tweak them & save to your own pre-sets & use anytime you want... using any photo you want from the camera or camera roll. Anything is better than Hipstamatic period!

Here are my results after a quick play with PictureShow.

I'm sure if I spent more time with PictureShow I could improve on getting a more Hipstamatic look.

I'll keep playing :-)

@dave day As your examples show ... PictureShow can't reach even nearly the quality and superior look of teh Hipstamatic! >:)

@loungy

Yes, hopefully I just need to spend a bit more time refining the settings in PictureShow :-)

Yes you can do a lot more tweaking than you did thus far.
