Large Aperture Pro, large aperture, low resolution

Large Aperture Pro is a new app from developer Zhong, that promises to give your iPhone photos that shallow depth of field look, that is more familiar to DSLR users that iPhone ones. The app itself is easy to use, employing a similar user interface to that of apps like ColorSplash, where by you use your finger to reveal your subject, leaving the untouched areas looking all blurry. The app lets you vary the degree of blur by emulating 9 different aperture settings from f0.95 through to f11, and whilst these emulated effects help produce some nice results, Large Aperture Pro is far from a pro app, with its pathetically poor low-res 640x479 out put, and should be avoided.

Unfortunately, I bought this app before this review. It would have saved me money... BlurFX App is way better for simulating DOF.

I cannot agree more with you Glyn... This app is far from PRO. I would have deleted even a free version from my iPhone after trying it.

What is with some developers that they can't release apps with full resolution support from the outset - is it really so difficult to do? I'd love to know. Thank goodness Glyn warns us of such useless apps.

I'm very disappointed that such a low quality app is promoted on iphoneography.com...

@ Yevgen Ummm don't consider it promoted, consider it a WARNING to not be the unfortunate consumer who bought this app & didn't see this!

It had 13 5-star reviews on the same day, which is in itself a warning. I decided I could check it out, which even for the dollar was a mistake. Next time I will wait for the review.

An update purported to allow full resolution, but after crashing repeatedly it twisted the photo from 1536x2048 to 2038x1536, with a much smaller file size.
