Give your iPhone photos some extra depth with Big Lens

"With numerous powerful filter effects make Big Lens perfect for creating professional-looking photos on your iPhone." Reallusion Inc.

App Store Description: When it comes to creating great-looking images, it’s all about focus. Big Lens gives you the ultimate in focus and filter tools for your iPhone. Simply focus where you want, with Reallusion’s Big Lens which turns everyone’s iPhone into a professional SLR camera. Whether you’re a novice or pro photographer, Big Lens is your secret weapon when taking shots with the iPhone. With Big Lens, snap a picture and then edit it like magic by setting the aperture, changing periphery blur levels, and adjusting background light to create a Bokeh effect with just a few gestures.

5 SUPER tools help iPhone/iPad users to create high quality photos.

  1. Smart Focus System: The Big Lens Smart Focus system allows you to use your finger tips to focus your images without any previous knowledge in Depth-of-Field. You can use basic geometric shapes or a lasso tool to auto-focus your target, or you can choose advanced mode to manually define your focus area. Smart Focus will then automatically refine your selection with precision.
  2. Aperture Control: Adjust the aperture in Big Lens with a single gesture to instantly change the blur level of the out-of-focus area. Remember that larger apertures blur the background more! Big Lens also offers 9 unique lenses that allow out-of-focus light points to blur into shapes like hearts and stars. This great tool turns simple-looking backgrounds into atmospheric backdrops.
  3. Filter Effects: Filters allow photographers to create special tones over images. Big Lens has more than 18 filters that allow users to enhance color, increase contrast, or add Lomo effects. The result is spectacular filter simulation results right from your iPhone.
  4. Instant Focus/Blur Tool: With instant focus and blur tools, users are able to instantly modify the focus and blur area with their fingers in no time. Use simple gestures to enhance and retouch focal areas to make the subject of your photos really pop!
  5. Before & After Preview: This is another great tool that allows users to compare before & after images to ensure they get the exact result they’re looking for. You can review your images at any time during your make-over process.

Editors Comments: This is an impressive and easy to use app, that has just found its way in to my core camera apps folder, and definitely worth the £0.69/$0.99/€0.79 asking price.

@Paul, sorry you bought this app on my recommendation. I only tested on the iPhone 4, but the fact this new app does not support the 4S is not good. I will try and contact the devs regarding this issue.

I love this app, bought it yesterday morning. It is easy & results are fantastic!

I get a "Pics over 5M" not supported error for some of the images from my camera roll that I had previously edited with other apps.

Despite that, for images below 5M :-) this is a pretty impressive app that produces great results. A 'go-to' app for me!

Hi Glyn,
I also bought the app upon your recommendation, and it doesn't work. Not even on images of the iPhone 4 (that are now in my Camera Roll on the 4S).

Could you please make it clear in the article that this will NOT work for iPhone 4 /4S Users.

Thank you, Daniel

@Daniel
Works perfectly on my iphone 4 with ios 5. Have had some great results so far.

I also bought this on the Editors recommendation and this isn't the first time that has caused me to waste my money! Maybe the editor should concentrate on the quality (accuracy) of his posts rather than the quantity!

@Daniel, sorry you bought this app based on my recommendation, only to find it does not work on the iPhone 4S. I was not aware of this issue at time of posting, but have now placed a warning at the foot of the post, warning about the apps incompatibility with the iPhone 4S. The app does however work fine on the iPhone 4.

@Not Again! Please expand. Why have I caused you to waste your money again?

Guys, don't give Glyn a hard time, it's only a buck (which I also spent only to find the 4S problem) and I'm sure the developer will have an update.

Agree with Steve, stop blaming Glyn!

I also read the article AND saw the problem that Paul raised BEFORE purchasing but it's definitely worth it while it's only £0.69 I think it's worth every penny.

I'm sure if you all put as much of an efforts into emailing the developers as you spend attacking someone that adds so much value to this community you might actually get somewhere!

Thanks for the recommendation Glyn, very glad I now have this app in my ever growing collection :)

Looks like a fantastic app but I have a 4s iPhone now. Do you think they will fix this problem quickly? Would love to use it. Very promising.

@judyisokay - I've emailed them - their support page is on Facebook (check out the link in iTunes) - hopefully they should fix it soon (I'm getting my 4S soon).

Glyn- Thanks for the recommendation period. I am very curious to know exactly which apps are in your core camera apps folder to compare against my own. I'd also like to say that your website is one of my core websites to check daily!!

Not blaming Glyn. Just to note...I too bought the app and found it doesn't work by getting the image "over 3M" notice. I was able to open older photos that I took with the 3Gs.

I sent feedback to the company. We'll see if they update it.

Hi Glyn. Thx for the tip.

The only thing Im missing is the window showing the path. Just like in TouchRetouch. I dont have thick fingers but still cant see the path wich I draw.

Exuse my bad english. Its not my native language :-)

Hi Tom, have you tried pinching to zoom, as this may help when trying to mark out your subject.
October 20, 2011 | Registered CommenterGlyn Evans
Yes zoom is an alternative but additional zoom window would be more comfortable :-) And its more accurate.

@Tom +1 - You should check out their Facebook page and suggest it (and point them to this page so they can see some support of the idea lol)

I´d like but I dont have Facebook acc. Anyway I´ll try to send them email.

I think its pretty good app and with that additional function it will be even better.
