Touch to Focus with Finger Focus

Finger Focus is a new app from "bbcddc", the same developer as myFilm SLR, and is decried as an app that "allows you to create blur effects on your photos just by tracing your finger through the photo."

The App
Finger Focus works in a similar way to "Color Splash" from developer Pocket Pixels, in that having loaded a photo, you use your fingers to pinch to zoom in on the subject, and then run your finger over the areas of the photo that you DON'T want to remain blurred. Having revealed the area/areas that you want to keep sharp, you then have the option to adjust the intensity of the blur by tapping on the teardrop icon and adjusting the relevant slider bar. Having adjusted the amount of blur, you can then adjust the photos saturation, brightness and/or contrast, if you want by tapping the sun/cloud icon, before saving to the camera roll, or sharing via Twitter or email.

Finger Focus also includes the following features:

  • Adjust the size of the blur spot (BLUR)
  • Adjust the border on the blur effect (BORDER)
  • Adjust brightness, contrast and saturation
  • Pinch gesture to seamlessly zoom in and out
  • Double tap on the image to zoom to 100%
  • Change brush size
  • Undo
  • Send the picture by email or post it to Twitter (twitpic)
  • The photos taken with the camera will be saved in the camera roll

So what do I think of Finger Focus?
The app is nice, clean and easy to use, and if it wasn't for the maximum resolution of just 2048 x 1530 pixels, combined with the recent release of Big Lens, then this app would have got my recommendation. Now don't get me wrong, this app is good (although full-res would make it even better), but for the same money, you can get Big Lens, which offers all these features and more.

There are a few small problems I have found with Big lens is when I zoom in to get a more accurate draw and i adjust the brush size to its smallest, the brush size doesnt change and I cant get an accurate line, also using the auto function, it most of the time removes the whole area drawn and I have to start all over again, hope they can fix this soon or does anyone else have the same problem as me? If they fix the res on finger focus this could be aother good blur app.
Cheers

A very honest review! I'd probably go for the Big Lens.

@Geoff - Post the problem on their Facebook page (it's their support page on iTunes) - they're really good at responding to issues :)

Unless I missed something, Big Lens doesn't provide an option to control the transition from focussed to blurred - Finger Focus has a "border" control. I was disappointed with the results I obtained with Big Lens because the transition was so abrupt.

@MomentsForZen, no you are correct, Big Lens is lacking this feature, but in my opinion, Big Lens is better value, and offers much more, That said, if Finger Focus support full-res, then it would be on my recommended list.
